The tire is a 305 i wanted to see what it would look like so i grabbed a 305/40/22 wheel and tire from my cousins pawn shop. i like the width its all most perfect no to big not to small. just seeing what you guys think. it will be much lower as the car is on a body car t right now

Definitely on the slim looking side...they should be about 12.5"....that's what I have on my Jeep.

Very slim. Remember these are 40 series 22"s! A whole different animal in section width here.

Wouldn't a 305 be 305mm wide regardless of diameter and aspect ratio?

At any rate, those tires look awfully narrow in my opinion.

Phil

That's because they are so tall and the car is sitting so high.

They do look too narrow in those pictures though.

Yes, but the extra heigth of the 22s makes them "APPEAR" to be narrow.

Think of a 335/18 tire.. not think of that same width but the tire is twice as tall. Now the width doesn't seem that much. Remember, perception is reality :)

Actual section width is affected by aspect ratio. For example, the section width on a 305/35/18 will be slightly wider than say, a 305/70/16. It's not much of a difference, though. The height of the tire in the picture is what is causing it to look narrower than it really is; optical illusion.

Remeber, perception is reality :)

Perhaps. Berkeley would agree with you that, "existence is to be perceived or to perceive". However, Eddington (and others) might challenge that notion. Okay, I know...:getout:

yes they do look really small in the pictures. i noticed that once i uploaded them on my computer, they are much wider in person. 12 inches to be sure. they actually do not tuck up into the wheels wells at all. because they are to wide.

haha its on a body cart...

yes i looked at the wheels again today they read (305/40/22) they got in a set of 305/35/18 today and they are the exact same width.

the tires on the 22s are toyos,

and the tires on the 18s on falken.

they look small in the picture but they are not that small in person..

maybe it's just the picture, but the 255 on the right and 275 on the left of my car BOTH look bigger than that 305 in your picture...

i just wheeled the car out of the garage and put a 275 under there, looks EXACTLY the same. so iv ecome to the conclusion to just do 335 like i orginally wanted to do.

And keep them under 27" tall if you want them to look wide. To the eye, proportions make the difference.

haha im going to do 335 or 345 tires out back, but that wont be for about another year. im kind of putting the GTO on the back burner. my friend is selling me his 85 buick regal for under a grand so im going to build that at first since its not as bad as the gto. and then ill get started on the goat after.
