Camaro Zach
01-30-2005, 08:06 PM
jumped ahead and repaird some rust on the passenger door today did some other stuff but dont have pics to show for that...
Im going to be replacing the dash panel whenever i figure out what i want to do with the vin tag. i dont know wether to cut that section out, drilll out the rivots, or try and save/re-use the origional rivots, any input is greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Zach

Zach - we just drilled out the rivets and re-riveted into the new dash panel on mine. It still looks good and once painted - you'll never know. As long as it matches your cowl tag, that's all that matters. Lookin good dude

01-31-2005, 04:17 PM
Thanks guys, yes they are repops. Goodmark I bought them back in November, but anything you buy from them after 05 is thicker gauge metal. Kind of makes me wish I had waited but oh well!

05-15-2005, 09:25 PM
Sorry i havent updated in a long time guys but another project rolled in the garage that needed attention (daily driver) so i had to get that done. Ill get back on the Camaro soon. The quarter panels are almost completely welded in as well as the wheel tubs. after i finish those up ill start working on the doors/front end.

Camaro Zach
08-18-2005, 06:39 PM
Well my DD is almost done just have to pass emissions now so the Camaro is coming home NEXT WEEK! i cant wait to start working on it again. going to finish the little bit of welding/grinding on the tubs and quarters and then start on the dash which shouldnt take more than a day. Then i guess ill start working on the front sheetmetal and when thats done ill start on the 4 link/cage which i still need to design. anyone have any input for the 4 link? should probably order some rulebooks for the cage. hrmm

Well as some of you know the direction this car is going has completely changed again. Building a tube chassis, new floor, cage, 3 link, and a modified stock subframe geometry (unless i get really ambitios and take my time designing a complete front suspension from scratch) but if i stick with modifying the stock for now im sure it will get ripped out in a few years in favor of something a bit more geared to my need.

Anyways i went and picked up the 2x4x.120" rec. tubing today for the main rails, 1" sq. to brace the body, and another sheet of 18 ga. for everything else.

Expect more pictures in the near future

Ralph LoGrasso

Woot. :) What's steel going for these days?

Camaro Zach
06-06-2006, 01:04 PM
TOO much! guy knocked 15 bucks off the price of the sheet and i walked over to the register only to find myself $20 too short LOL so i ended up getting $35 off but it was still about $275

Camaro Zach
06-09-2006, 11:47 AM
This is the inside rocker and door sill, its where the tubing is going to sit for the main 2x4" rails. *the bottom of the rocker sits at an angle stock so im going to bend it down and the the top of the tubing should be even with the pinch weld*

Coming along!hah.. i must have been p*ssed off.
Yea going with an ls1/2 just mild for now though since it will be daily driven. And bodywork - yea i hate it too... Car was really straight when I bought it (was prepped for paint) but after I tore into it the meyhem began.

Madspeed - Thanks. And yea I do get bored when the projects are done. Bring yours over! lol

Today I got everything cut out, squared up the car, did about 3 hours of measuring, tweaking, hammering, but finally got the rails in and welded up. Also got the door sill/rocker area repaired.
Hopefully tomorrow ill trim the extra off the rockers, finish welding the rails to the front door posts, and build the rear crossmember. Been doing alot of research on wheels lately since i need to order some rears soon. If anyone has some suggestions im open. I need 18x12 and 18x10's and they have to be light and under 3k (been looking at ccw 505A's and SP18's)

Camaro Zach
06-26-2006, 05:48 PM

Well there I suppose once again there won't be any progress for a while. I got a new job at a local fabrication shop and i'm working 5am to 5pm 7days/week + more if i need to stay late. I'm doing work for the Golden Nugget casino in Vegas, a bunch of restaurants around here, and just yesterday i got back from a 34 hour shift at the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio tx. But my rear tires on order and i might just get a pair of ccw 505a's next paycheck.

Call John Purner at CCW to order the wheels. Search the web for their sute. I have SP16's, but now they make SP16A's, which is cool because John only made 2 sets of my wheels, so I have unique wheels! He can make more anytime as it's just code in his machine.

4" ride height is about the look im going for but i think 5-6" minimum is going to be more realistic since it will get driven almost daily when it's done. Hopefully this weekend I can get the rear suspension mocked up and possibly pull the car outside for some better pictures of its stance.

The website for the wheels is www.ccwheel.com (http://www.ccwheel.com) Looks like they are just getting around to updating it too.

I was almost at the point of selling my 68 camaro as there was alot of sheetmetal to replace, but after seeing your car i am more than ready to dig into the project, are all your sheetmetal pieces goodmark and if so how do you like the fit and quality....Thank you Barry YES KEEP IT nothing like the satisfaction of replacing everything yourself. As for my sheetmetal fitup... I cant vouch for how their current stuff fits because I bought all that sheetmetal a few years ago. But the quarters fit pretty good except for the taillight area where the tail panel meets the quarters. The shapes don't match and the drivers side quarter is taller than the passenger, but it's not a problem for me because ill be shaving the body seams.

I didn't finish welding the tabs because the lowers still need to be modified for the coilovers to possibly mount to and the uppers are most likely getting removed completely because i'm not happy with where the holes are and the look of it.

Sorry fellas I don't have much in the form of updates as another year passes. I am going to school in Oklahoma so the car was moved out of the garage and into a barn to give my father some room while I am away. I should be back home by the end of summer and back to work on the car though!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Things have been really busy for me for the last year. Recently bought a house with a shop and finished up a few customers vehicles that were occupying my time.
