They are intelligence... it's a joke basically. We had 8 Israeli intelligence officers with us and that was their explanation.

Yeah, it was a cool group thing called Birthright Israel (birthrightisrael.com) We had 2 armed guards/medics, then on the 4th day (of 10) we had 8 Israeli soldiers join us. Very cool folks, all a little younger than us, as we were 22-26 and they were all 20-22.

Some truely great pictures you took there. Shame that most include images of military influence. I long for the day when all of the middle east can just be at peace and that military entourages and gatherings will warrent curious stares at their rare appearance, such as we enjoy here in the United States.

Matt,
Thanks for sharing the pics with us. Was this your 1st time there? I'm sure it had to be a pretty neat experience. Guess I'm too much of a " U.S. homebody" to travel to foreign soil. Thanks again.

Huh?

Well I certainly hope my comments didn't insult anyone. What I meant by my statement is that far too often when we see images from the middle east they usually include some sort of military influence in the background, such as armed forces (from either our country or theirs), tanks, jeeps, guns, etc. Some of the pics he took of the coast and inner villages to the grasslands and mountains should be the norm because believe it our not there are some beautiful features (and people) in that part of the world. Unfortunately, our press in this country would rather show it's carnage than it's beauty. Again...thanks for the great shots. It's nice to see a part of Israel that is not often exposed.

I agree with you. My post was political and I chose to withdraw it.

I'm not offended :)

It is a shame. Go to night clubs, see guns, go to the supermarket see guns, go to the mall, see guns. But I felt safe. They still have some burned out apcs on the side of the road from either the 6 day war or the war of independence, which is wild.

It was my first time there, it was under what is called a Birthright trip. For kids (18-26) who have either one or both Jewish parents, or have converted they will send you to Israel. Free air, food, hotel, tour. Since I'm 26, and had wanted to go, I figure it was my last chance to do it young and for free... so I did. :)

Oh yeah, Canon 5D, with a 17-40 f4 L, and a 70-200 f2.8 L.
