Well guys, I took the car to a local AutoX today. I won my class! :1st:

The Novice class, lol. :hand:

While it sounds like I beat up on some 5th graders, the class had a pair of C5 Vettes (1 Z06), a modded Z28, and various other hot rods. The two Vette drivers both had previous seat time with their rides. In all, there were 12 of us in the Novice class. Not too bad for the very first time driving the car hard.

So the suspension in the car doesn't suck! I'm pretty psyched, and looking forward to the driving school at Road Atlanta on Sunday. A few observers told me the car looked faster (read: I need a lot of work driving), and it looked like I was holding back.

Nothing broke, the car kept coming back for more, and I brought it home in one piece. That's a good car day!

very glad to hear the car performed well and you did too. The greatest thing about solo2 autox is that you don't have to change anything on the car. Just pratice and you will do so much better as time goes on.

Congratulations John. I therefore assume that you made it thru tech without issue?

Thanks all. We need more pro-touring machines out there. We must beat back the Mini Coopers!

Tom, yeah, it was pretty sweet seeing some of the suspension concepts actually working. I've got some learning to do to compete in the race classes (which is where the car belongs when I get some race tires).

Steve, tech was not very --- rigorous. It consisted of a 10 mph hands free braking test, making sure the battery was secure, and that the engine didn't leak oil. That was it. I nearly screwed that up by forgetting to push in the clutch when I hit the brakes. Driving with no hands on the wheel had me a bit discombobulated I guess.

John,
Just go easy with it and don't over drive the car. If you come in from a run and can remember all the areas you need to do better, that's ideal. When you start over driving the car, you will have more problem areas than you can recall at the end, that is when you know to back off and settle down.

Congratulations! you are now officially hooked! :)

Bring it to the track you'll freak the F@$K out of the yahoos, ie locals

Good to see your out having fun with the car, and if you wanted to Autocross it, just drive in Orlando traffic its about the same, just no cones!

It sounds like the baseline setup is pretty good right out of the box. By the end of summer you will be all dialed in if you can keep from changing too many things at once and let your driving catch up!

Congrat's on the win and hope you have many more:fingersx:

Way cool John.

I've only worked up the nerve to go to a couple of cruises so far, still needs tuning. My friends are all into drag racing and not autocrossing so I don't know if I'll ever make it to an autocross. I don't like to go unless I have a few people there I know. Besides the wife is against any racing, something about we have too much invested in it to break something or tear it up. I don't know what she means.

I can't wait to see the car some day. Are you going to go to any big shows? I'm trying to talk the wife into Goodguys in Columbus but at this point it only looks like we will be at the Demoine, Iowa and Kansas City Goodguys shows. The rest will be local shows. What about SEMA?

Did you ever post pictures of the car? I haven't been on the site much for the last 6 to 8 months.

Way to go John! Until my car is fixed I can live vicariously though your exploits :D

We will even forgive you for not having video of the run.. sorta ;)

Anyways, glad the car is sorted out and that you are showing people the II Much is NOT just another pretty show car. It's an ass kicker as well.

So now I have three successful suspension designs (Morrison GT55, 3G Vette, and II Much). Maybe I should consider starting my own business with extensive track support for customers. Then I get to go to the track on work days and can write off my racing expenses. Hmmm....

JP, check your PM at CC.com.

That is way too cool! I would crap the bed if I saw you slamming that between the cones at a local auto-x and I'll bet people there were doing just that, especially the Corvette drivers that couldn't keep up with your times!

Some guys talk tough but to take a car that looks like that and have the skills, balls and car capability to rip it through an auto-x and win is a major deal!

Way to go, John. I'm pretty sure that the results are up, but the work filters here won't let me look at them.

Dennis - with the exception of time-speed-distance rallying, autocross is about as easy on the equipment as any competitive motorsport activity can possibly get. As long as your equipment is in good shape and not badly overmatched by available power or grip, you aren't likely to break anything in a parking lot.

Where's the next stop for II Much John?

Norm - I know it's even safer than driving it to a car show. Convincing the wife is another story. I haven't been to an autocross since I got rid of my Monza about 10 years ago. I may look into doing that once I get some miles on it.

I was wanting to dot the open track day held by the Porsche or BMW club here in St. Louis, but a co-worker went last year in his vette and almost had a kid in his dad's M-3 rear end him. At that same event, a Viper slid sideways into the end of a barrier and another car looped it and hit every corner on the outside wall.

I'll eventually do some type of competition once the new is worn off.

Dennis,

I'm planning on the Year One show in Atlanta, which also includes time on Road Atlanta. Can't wait! After that, I've got the Eyes on Design show in Detroit in June, then maybe Good Guys Columbus in July. Pigeon Forge in September, possibly SEMA if I can snag a booth somewhere.

Maybe you can make it to Pigeon Forge?

John,

I've seen your build-up pics but still curious, any probs with tire clearance when turning during the auto-x?

any probs with tire clearance when turning during the auto-x?Nope. Not a bit. No rubbing whatsoever.

I do admit to narrowing the rear track by an inch last week though. I could tell from floor-jack induced body roll that I had a minor problem. A local shop narrowed the housing and shortened the axles. Frank at Prodigy gave me the tip for those guys.
