I am having problems with my Edelbrock 750 carb and don't know where else to look. I have had to jet richer on the primaries by quite a bit to get it to run a good AFR.
A few weeks back I was doing hard braking and the car died and was difficult to restart, but it did.
I tried it again a few days ago and it died and would not start. After towing it home, I finally got it started by cranking the timing as far advanced as it would go. I hooked up a vaccuum gauage and am pulling 7 inches or so and before it was over 15 at idle. The car won't idle down and can't tolerate any load. Above 2 K the motor seems to do okay. I thought I might have flooded it but it never smelled like gas.
I checked the float settings and they were a little off, but even after correcting them no change. I noticed some silt in the bottom of the bowls and was wondering if something could have gotten clogged.
I have removed every vaccuum hose and plugged them with no change. I have removed the EGR and plugged the ports in the manifold with no change.
I am thinking something is worng with the carb and I can't figure it out. I thought the Edelbrocks were supposed to be simple and if nothing else utterly reliable. The carb has run me well up until the last little bit. Before the big problem it would surge slightly at low load cruising.
Yesterday it seemed like the idle circuit was not giving it any fuel. If I pump the carb it will run for a few seconds and then want to die as if it is running out of fuel.
I have tried to track down a spare carb to bolt on to see if it is the car but can't. I am tempted to hi Autozone and buy a new one but hate to waste money if there is a simple fix.
