I've been busy working out kinks and dialing in the suspension on my '67. Nothing major, but I thought I'd share some progress and a few pics.

The car has a Wayne Due C5 front subframe and HTH truckarm rear suspension. The rear suspension works very well, and I am quite happy with it. The front suspension has taken a bit of work, but it is finally feeling right to me.

Here's a little list of upgrades/changes I've made recently:

Installed 17x9.5" front wheels & 255/40/17 G-force T/A KD's (already had 17X11's with 315/35/17's in back)

Replaced stock Mustang rack with AGR performance fast-ratio rack (It feels SO MUCH BETTER!!)

Replaced front coilovers with adjustable QA1's and 450 lb. springs

Swapped 1" front swaybar for solid 1 1/8" bar

Got my personalized license plates which I think add a nice, subtle detail to the car

Dialed in the front-end alignment on the Hunter alignment machine I have at work (set front caster to 6.25 and camber to -1.25)

That's about it at the moment. I've been enjoying driving it, and put it in a local show a couple weeks ago. I will be doing my big engine upgrade in a few weeks when my intercooled 122H Magnacharger gets here (I've been waiting over 6 weeks for it already). I'll be swapping out my stock LS6 heads for a set of CNC ported heads that will lower my compression a bit. I'll also be replacing my stock LS6 cam with a comp 224/230 XER cam that should make the car sound like it should. I'm expecting 525-550 rwhp and 500 twtq. I'll be sure to post another update as I install the blower.

Looks great and I bet it's great to drive. Did you sell the other LS1?

How stiff is the front end with the 450 lb springs? I went with Wayne's recommendation of 300 lb for the front, I'm just wondering if that will be too soft.... I'm also using the C4 sub.

Great to see your post.

Hi Ron,
The other LS1 is gone, Carl C. bought it and it's going in his red '68.

You can't really compare my spring rates to yours. My C5 subframe has different geometry and requires higher spring rates to get the same effect. I'd stick with the 300's on your C4 sub, that's what I had for the C4 setup in my '68. I never drove it with the Wayne Due setup, so I cannot say how the 300# springs felt on the road.

Oh, and my 450# springs ride great. I'm thinking of going stiffer, maybe stepping up to 500's.

looks good.

did you have to use mini-tubs to fit the 315?

Thanks Andy.

I'm along way off from driving my car. I hope to have the rear end in this week and then get the sub frame test fit. I still need to have the sub frame painted or powder coated. Hopefully I'll have some thing to post next week.

Thanks again for the info on the springs….

Yes, the car has Detroit Speed deep tubs. There is actually still room for bigger tires. I could go with a 335 in the rear if I want, but the 315's are pretty damn big as it is. The car hooks up very well on the street right now, but the blower will change that :)

A 275 on a 9.5" wheel is about as big as you can go with stock wheel tubs without any rubbing issues.

Andy the car looks really good, how are you testing for the recent suspension mods? Just street driving or on a track somewhere? I think a DSE mini-tub is next on my list :twothumbs

Andy, your car looks kick a$$. You have done a VERY nice job and I'm sure the upgrades will be even better.

Thanks,
This is all just street driving and how the car feels to me. I've really just been trying to decrease body roll and keep the ride quality nice.

Right now, it's riding and handling pretty damn well. I can push it hard, and really haven't found the car's limits yet with the bigger tires and suspension mods (and I probably shouldn't on the street). The ride quality is much better than my '68 that was equipped with Hotchkis springs front & rear. I think a big part of that is the truckarm rear suspension, which really allows the rear wheels to follow the road.

I say do the mini-tubs, I don't think you will regret it. My car looks stock from inside the trunk, and the bigger tires are great. If I keep the rpms low when launching on the street, it pretty much hooks up and goes. Little or no tire spin. Of course, I can still light up the tires through 1st and 2nd if I really want to :drive:
