I have a 70 chevelle I would like to put corvette c6 wheels on. It looks like I will need about a 2.5 or 3" billet wheel spacer in the back and a 2" in the front. Are these safe? do they damage you wheel bearing, etc...?

The billet ones that have their own lug studs on them work well, but they sure do look goofy behind the wheels with the brakes so far back. Are you set on C6 wheels? Why not take advantage of the ability to have deep lips on the wheel, something all C6 owners wish they could do.

Billet wheel adapters are safe to run. However there are a few things you can do as cheap insurance:

Upgrade to 1/2" studs on both your hubs and adapters.
Measure your hub/axle flange and make sure the adapter to hub/axle mounting flange matches (hubcentric).
Measure your wheel and have a wheel centering lip machined on to the adapter (wheelcentric).

The more centering devices you have, the safer it will be to drive at high speeds. It may sound complicated, but if you get the adapters made by someone experienced, they will know how to address all of these issues. I highly recommend Fred Goeske at www.wheeladapters.com. He did my 2.25" adapters with 1/2" studs made to clear aftermarket axles with a wheel centric lip for C5 replicas (70.3mm) for $75 a piece.
