Progress is coming along nicely. However, you probably won't see much on the car until it is finished. Sort of a suprise for Bonneville. I have seen a couple pictures, but I would get a midnight visit from big men in black suits driving black LTDs if I shared them......:)

:twothumbs That's cool! I had not heard anything, just was curious if it was still a go. Guess I am going to finally be marking Bonneville off of my places to go list! Thanks Bill.

Marty..i'm concerned if I turn all the build pix over to you and they go on the internet, magazines won't want to do a build article on it. August is just around the corner, and I'm going to hold off on the build part of the web site until I know what the magazines are going to do. The car is coming right along...we're pushed for time as you might imagine..we started late..but it looks OK for August..Alan Johnson in Gadsden is going to build the front sheet metal for the car. Rabbit is pushed for time so Alan is going to do it..Rabbit said he'll be done with the chassis and suspension by the end of this month ands it can go over to Alan's shop for a couple weeks.

I understand exactly what your saying. I almost posted the url and then i said "Na" let's hold off. If you want we can get started building it and then not put it up on the internet will the August. This way we won't have to rush the website.

You almost need to secure your accomdations a year in advance. And dont even think of sleeping on the salt... its closed at sundown.
Back in January, one of the bigger hotels in Wendover caught fire and burned about 75 rooms. That and the massive on-slaught of first timers (from Frieburgers following) are going to make it a little rough to find a place to rest.
There is always the KOA...
See'ya boys there.
ElMo sure was a blast this past weekend. A lot of fun in a very short distance...

when is the bonneville speed week?? I passed trough there back in september of 2003. I stopped at the salt flat...got out and read the big sign the have there. Then I procedded to walk onto the salt and just about sunk down to my knee...that was the "rain" season, and the whole place was like muck...nasty stuff. But I can say that I have been there..and I did take some salt as a souviner.

it's the second week of August..like Thurs. August 9th starts check in..They used to check in on Friday but this year it's Thurs. won't race until the week-end and goes thru the next week..let's hope the salt is good...if it rains very much a few weeks before, it can get real nasty..you can't tell how it's going to be each year...let's hope this year the weather cooperates..

You are not allowed to to be on the track grounds after 7 or something, you can stay on the salt at the bend in the road before you drive onto the track area.
Most of the hotels have truck/RV parking and there are a few large parking lots.
Just keep calling, most people get lots of rooms and then start cancelling then closer to go time.

man it's been an uphill pull with the rough side dragging..besides having to deal with an employee embezzling money, the Caddy has had to be taken to Alan's to make sure it will meet the dead line. Now if the left Coast Alan will get over here with the engine, the car part will be finished thanks to Johnson's Hot Rod Shop..Alan Johnson better known as the Gadsden Alan Johnson in particular..He just keeps on bailing me out...He's working 4 or 5 guys on it to get it finished...Rabbit just had bitten off more than he could chew..It's a bad looking piece of plunder..Alan built the whole front end out of Aluminum, built an aluminum top, reshaped the rear wheel openings in the quarters, is doing a lot of the interior aluminum work etc. That big ass Yoder Air hammer, English Wheels, Planishing hammer, Pullmax, new CNC Lathe. on and on..tons of custom tooling for all the equipment too..really speeds up the process..Alan has the best equipped shop you will find..He's tripled the size of it in the last 6 months. He has one of Andy Granateli's Sons working there now...he's a bad mo fo too...Alan's getting a great crew together now..I'm very happy for him..no harder working guys around than Alan, Foose, and Trepanier...I guess that's why they're tops in this game... imho..

I was having a little trouble figuring out what to do about the wheels for the XLR...I wanted to run 16's on the front..18's on the rear...(the selection of tires to run Bonneville isn't that extensive.) I needed a 16"X5" front wheel with a 2.750" back space...a 18"X7" rear with a 4.5 backspace. Larry Dove @ EVOD Industries in L/A..father of Shaun Dove..(Twin Sting Boyd Coddington TV Corvette) offered to whittle me the wheels from 6061 Billet at a helluva deal...He has Mike that used to work for Boyd on TV working for him doing the CNC work..I went over to BBS here near my house, got to rummaging around in some of their 3 piece wheel inventory and viola we found the correct hoop halves, and centers to make the wheels..Very strong and will absolutely do the job..put some flat covers over them and they're ready to freddie..nice and round, straight and strong..just what the doctor ordered..Bonspeed had also offered to work with me on them, but they have to be forged and no one makes any hoops that narrow in 16"..Mickey Thompson won't have the tires ready until July 15th...Bonneville is 3 weeks later...this whole deal is coming down to the wire...lot of work left to do...should have taken it to Alan's a month earlier..don't matter though...Alan will do whatever it takes to get er done..now if I can just get the motor here..

It would have been a grand story had Rabbit been able to finish it himself...1 Man building a car in his garage all by himself..Rabbit is a very innovative, experienced, talented guy,...He had just bitten off more than he could chew in this time frame..He's older than I am and i'm sure he's lost a few steps...just doesn't want to admit it to himself..He's done a lot of work but there is still a lot to do...I never really believed he would be able to do it all anyway..This car hasn't been in the works but for 4 months or so..I think everyone will be impressed with the finished product...a late model car but cool nontheless..Alan and his crew always seem to get fired up over my vision..His # 1 guy Tony, really likes to work on my stuff...and I really like him to work on it too...he's a bad ass mo fo..nobody is better than him with their hands...man can do anything..plus he's smart and full of ideas too..i absolutely love working with him..

We've got the exhaust built and we can use the stuff that's actually going to be run on the XLR on the dyno over here...I've finally convinced everyone that's the only logical way to go. We can go to Young's in Decatur Ala. and dyno the motor there...Alan Dudley who designed the fuel computer for it works out of there..so both Alan Johnsons, and Joe Granatelli can be there and Allen Dudley can be there...we can also test the stuff that's actually going to be on the car...it's going to be close...with just a little bit of luck we will make it...Thanks to Alan Johnson in Alabama..he's bailed me out again..a man really finds out who his true friends are when he needs help...We'll just crate the engine up and fly it over here..cheapest and quickest way to go..

I talked to Angie and Alan tonight. Alan didn't want to know if you had money for shipping, he said because you brought the car to him so late and he had to stop everything else going on, he was going to charge double. Oh, and he ain't staying on the project day and night because of "intestinal fortitude".....he is just billing more hours, now that the rate is doubled. In fact, I am headed to Gadsden in the morning to get me some of that double time......hehe.
Seriously, he said it was coming together and starting to look good. However, no matter how much I tried, I could not get a picture out of him or Angie.....They said cameras were banned from the shop at the moment???

True,
When it rains there any salt turns into a lake, or worse it turns into mud!
Look at this photo, the guys pitched a tent near the entrance road. The footprints were from when it rained, very muddy! - because the salt is thin on the edges and turns to mud.
I was there in 2004 and it rained every afternoon for three days in a row. They still ran cars each day until around 3pm when the rain started. It hardly rained on the middle of the course, but poured on the start line area in the RH photo.
The KOA is probably a good choice

Motor came in as expected on Friday. California Alan Johnson flew over Sat. evening. Rabbit and he got the engine ready to put on the dyno on Sun.... they made it to Young's Monday evening. They got it set up on the dyno, got the computers working, and cranked it up Tuesday but didn't make any pulls. Wed. they made 5 pulls..the last pull was just shy of 1400 hp..that's way more than we need to do what we want. it has quite a bit more left in it but we will run it a little fat and be safe. 1,000 hp should make it run as fast as we need to go to do what we want. Troy said the Blowfish is making a tad over 1,000hp and he fully expects it to go over 300mph this time. The car is looking super. Gadsden Alan is doing his usual magic on the sheet metal. He's very tenacious and will get his part done even though it was dumped in his lap way behind schedule. I'm feeling much better now that the engine is here and the computers worked out OK. The Alan Dudley Fuel computer worked great. it is super user friendly. Made specifically for Alcohol/Turbo applications..We used electromotive for the ignition side..everything worked like it should have.

C is the classic category that covers American coupes and sedans with at least 500 pcs produced for sale to the general public..from years 1928-1981..CGC is the classic unblown gas coupe..the engine size which is 306 - 372.99 cu. in. is C so it would be CCGC unless it has some scoops or something that they might reclassify it to CPRO or some other class..i don't think they will allow Electronic fuel injection in the CCGC class unless it was something that had it from the factory..the CCGC record is 214.160 mph set in 8/02..the DCGC record is surprisingly faster at 221.559..with an engine size of 261 to 305.99 cu.in.set in 8/03

I have this crazy fantasy of someday when the car is done taking a week or two off of work and doing an open track day on Sat. an auto-x on Sunday, hitting the Wed. night drags in Sacramento and then driving the thing to Bonneville for once of the race weekends to end the trip. No delusions of grabbing a record at all, but I was just curious what the record might be for the class that the car would slot into.
If I'm reading this right it should be either 214 or 220. http://www.scta-bni.org/Bonneville/records/BNIrecs_cat_e.htm Pfft, not a chance. But it would be fun as hell to run it just the same.

If I may suggest... that you purchase an SCTA 2007 rule book... as the rules are up to interpretation. Remember, there is no such thing as cheating... its called innovation.
Engine classification:
364cid = C engine class
Chassis classification:
Classic 'Gas Coupe' or Modified 'Gas Coupe'
Both the Classic and Modified catagory require the chassis to be unmodified and that it remains in "unaltered height, width or contour, with all stock panels mounted in original relationship to each other".
The Modified catagory is much 'looser' with aero modifications, which the car will need if you really want to go over 200mph. I can almost guarantee that you will need to play around with the center of pressure and CG... which will be a direct effect of playing around with the aero of the 1st gen f-body... mainly, pre and post vessel.
Engine:
The Classic catagory requires that if you were to use an EFI system, that you must use an OEM EFI system. That OEM EFI system must be stock and unmodified in any way for the year and model of the vehicle entered. It is not allowed however, or legal to use a 'closed loop' system. Since the 68 never came with EFI... you would not qualify for this catagory if EFI were to be used, normally asperated or not.
The Modified catagory requires that you, at a minimum, do an "engine swap" to compete in this catagory. "Gas Coupe" is basically a Production car with an engine swap. An engine swap is defined as, "the replacement of the original engine with one of a design which was not available as a factory option for the peticular car in question". The 364cid could be classified as an engine swap if the stock OEM 1968 block is not used... like that of using an LT1 or LSx.
Classic unblown gas coupe BNI record: 214.160 mph
Modified unblown gas coupe BNI record: 225.975 mph
Im currently in the production of a 1967 "B/GC" Camaro for ELMO and after I make it into the "dirty 2"... I should (hopefully) have the bugs worked out for the B/GC record at BNI. All of this... with a license plate no less.
You might want to look into this: http://www.saltflats.com/I30%20Club.html as it is... I think, more of what you are looking at getting yourself into with what you had stated earlier... no record, but run what'cha brung... and drive her home.

Tom "the answer man" Holt strikes again. Wow dude.
As I said above I am under no delusions of contending for a record so I think you are right-on in suggesting the Salt Flats Racing assoc and quite honestly the idea of pushing this thing to a deuce....on salt (IMO a poop-ton tougher and more dangerous than on pavement) is not what I'm after. I just want one of those "grand adventure" type things and taking one car to a road course, auto-x, drag strip and Bonneville in the same week seems to fit the bill. Throw in a few more cars doing the same thing and it might make for a pretty nifty TV show. Hmmm, might have to see if Mr. Angry still has Bill Goldbergs phone number.

I was a George Foreman man myself..George would have put a whoopin on Ali had they not doped his food up of whatever they did when they fought..Ol George acted goofy for a few years after that. After losing George said all he wanted to do is go to the beach and eat ice cream. If Ali was a great American, then I'm a sex god..he was a draft dodging, Muslim..Ali is spposed to be messed up in the head from all those beatings. He danced around and didn't get hit in the head as many times in his whole career as George Chavalo or Randal Tex Cobb did in a minute of any round. I like my man Evander..Come and fight the other mans fight and whip his buttocks by fighting his way..I just wish Evander would have been a true heavyweight instead of a cruiser fighting heavy..

As Posted by the SCTA-BNI.
Larry Volk called Mike Waters this afternoon (7-30-07) about 2:30, he had been out on the salt.
Conditions are as follows:
There is standing water, about 6" deep at the end of the road,
There is about 2" at the starting lines and it's about 1" deep at the 2 mile.
The courses are in need of further work (Dragging) due to the flooding.
The salt is mostly dry around the side of Saldero Dike.
Larry went to visit Russ Draper at the Intrepid plant and get his take on what to expect.
The consensus was, between Larry and Russ Draper, that if we get no more rain then evaporation will most likely take care of the remaining water.
Russ estimates the evaporation rate at about 1/2" per day with the 90 deg. plus weather they are having. Of course the wind will help also.
A segment of our work force is scheduled to arrive this coming Sunday and by then we'll have a better picture of things to come. Stay tuned for more updates!

August 5th, 2007 3:59 PM MT - SCTA ADDITIONAL REPORT
The three courses we originally prepped for Speed Week are no longer available. Course # 1 is underwater with lots of potholes. Course # 2 is partially underwater, and course # 3 still looks somewhat usable.
Our advanced team of workers are very busy establishing 2 more courses on higher ground. We have found sufficient dry salt to accommodate our normal long and short courses.
Since we are basically starting over, we would appreciate your patience as there may be a need for changes to our original event schedule.
The weather forecast is promising, but there is always the possibility of more rain. Please check here for more updates as they become available.

Our crews have provided the following update from the hot and sunny salt: There will be two courses available for Speed Week 2007. They will be in the normal configuration of one long and one short course. The long course has been established and is being dragged. The short course will be established this afternoon and dragging will commence tomorrow. Currently the weather is hot and dry and is expected to remain that way through the week.

The water at Land's End is receding. The weather is hot and sunny and should continue that way through the entire meet. The registration area, pits and impound area have been surrounded by fencing tape. The timing stand and start line is in place. Preparation efforts on the courses progressing nicely. We will be referring to the courses as Course 1 (West/left side) and Course 2 (East/right side). Initially Course 1 will be short with the possibility of being extended later. Course 2 will be a long course. I spent the day on the flats, my first time here and pretty amazed.
The only water is when you get off the pavement onto the salt for about 100 yards. Then everything is nice. Plenty hot, but that is to be expected. The XXXLR when thru tech with only a couple things to fix. The biggest issue was Bob getting his fat ass out of the car on a practice fire drill in time.....hehe
He is going to work on that some tomorrow morning. They start racing at 10am tomorrow, but I a guessing the XLR will not make a lap til Sunday, just getting everything fine tuned right now.
I am give out tonight but will try to get some pictures up tomorrow. Poteet is here with 4 cars and is loaded for bear. I am looking forward to watching Blowfish set new records this week also. We are parked right beside them and I can tell you first hand George Poteet is one of the nicest guys out here. He bent over backwards to help thru tech, get a part we needed and just give Bob some pointers in general.

A short story, by chicane.
In the begining, the Lord created earth. Then the Lord created man. After that, the Lord created some far off places of such beautiful magnitude it cannot be explained in mere words alone. Then man created the pushrod V8. After this, man needed a place to do something with his creation. Hence the story and historied past of Bonneville begins.
It is the place where all American motorsports began.
Well, ole Billy went to Bonneville to see this specticle first hand. But as a rookie he was not quite prepared for what he was about to experience. Unfortunately... ole Billy got a little too much sun.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/08/OutbackBilly-1.jpg
But at least for now, he has some new outfitter duds to help him survive another 5 days in Bonneville. Good times Bill... good times.
Well, as for us... on Saturday the ole hotrod did a 177.xxx on 7 cylinders. It had the number 3 wire come off the plug. On early Sunday morning we were third in line just after the previous day impounds had their second attempts at their respective record runs. Once released from the starter, Mark rolled into the throttle only to have the engine lose fire. Seems it (a brand new dist) popped the dist rotor and took out the cap at the same time. Mark didnt unfortunately, bring a spare. We hit the salt but couldnt source a new cap and rotor for the L88 in the pits... and the local parts store couldnt dig one up either. But at least when they were done thrashing their store looking for one... they came out to the salt to let us know just that... and also came out to verify the part/part numbers to get one to us ASAP. Thankfully... the new parts should be there tomorrow morning.

Today was the first full pass. First mile was 180 and change, second mile was 189 and change, last mile was 196 and change, COASTING thru the traps. We were only supposed to run 175-185 on the first pass so Rabbit (driver and builder) backed off and coasted thru. Car should do 245 or so with no sweat. Trouble is it is a 4 freakin hour wait between rounds, if you don't have to do anything to the car. Hopefully we will get another pass today and back up the record in the morning, but I am not sure I will be here to see it, gotta fly out of Salt Lake City around 2pm and we are two hours away.

He will probably drive it sometime tomorrow, if we can set the record today. The problem with Bob driving first was this: He would have to start at 125, then run 150 then a 175 just to get to where Rabbit already was with his license. And with the crowd here, we did not want to waste too much time with the license issue. Once it is set, then Big Bob can play. Chances are he may be back out here for a private session next month anyway, where only a select few are invited and he can run hot laps if he wants.

If you can wiggle in a little more contrast you'll get more texture in the salt surface (if it's in the original file, which may be washed out) and the clouds.

Sorry so late guys, we did not set a record this evening. We were the last car to run tonight and at 2 miles, Rabbit felt something weird in the car and shut it down. We will be running again in the morning. We did not find anything wrong with the car, but are still looking. 235+ is no time to find a problem. I, unfortunately have to leave tomorrow, but will keep everyone updated via phone.

Ill tell you what... the salt on Saturday was sloppy. Still a little too wet for any serious, non streamliner.
When you drive a car that has been known to be the least amount of work to drive (meaning one finger straight down the center line) for the past 39+ years... and you go out and have make small input adjustments... only to find yourself moving 50 feet both left and right from center at 175+...........
... You have to ask yourself if the socks you are wearing were brown whe you put them on that morning. That "feeling"... can make the biggest difference in your wardrobe.

Sorry Frank... seemed to have miss this question. It is still reaching for 20x.xxx. But this peticular engine is a little tired from being a street motor. The new engine, which goes in the last week of August, should easily laydown 220-225.

The XXXLR Ran 227mph just a short while ago. They will back the run up tomorrow and make it official.

Thanks Ben,
I was going thru security when Angie and Bob called with the news. They did not change the gears this morning, choosing to do a more conservative run. Still ran a 227 on a fat tune. The car will be back to improve the record next year I am sure, but I would be happy with this one. I just hate I didn't book my flight a day later so I could have been there. So Cool to see that puppy flying low.
Congratulations Bob, Alan, Alan, Rabbit and the whole gang, I am proud.

Thats funny that your stock bodied street car is running about the same as Bobs all out race car. I hope Bob's holding something back. It seems like that car should be running much faster.

you have to run faster incrementally at the flats. It has something to do with licensing. Someone help me out here.

I am going on the assumption that this is not the Vette's first trip to Bonneville. I doubt whether you can build a car from scratch and go out the first time and run maximum potential. Lots of sorting and getting the bugs out that has to be done regardless of the licensing of the driver.
Bill Howell
08-15-2007, 05:35 PM
Sorry True, no in car camera, but you can believe it will have one next time.
As far as Bob running the car, time is running out. They have to back up the run in the morning, then, if there is time, I am sure Bob would love to get a run or two in. Yes, he has to start at 125 or so and work his way up to speed, as time allows. Trouble is, all the grunt help (me, Alan,Doug) have left or will leave tomorrow, so that is another factor.
As I said before, the car was on a fat (safe, rich) tune, it had slower gears, and of course, it was the first trip to the flats, hell the first run was the first time the car had moved on its own power. As usual, if he had run 350mph, there would be someone that would think it could run faster.....damn! The object of this game was to run safely, not see how fast it would go the first trip out, at the risk of the driver and some very expensive parts. The car should do about 260 or so, properly tuned, properly geared and that will happen, just when we are not sure yet. There is an outside chance the car will go back to Bonneville shortly, but I will let Bob talk about if and when when he gets back online.

I can't imagine the amount of sorting that goes on with cars like Bobs. With so much working going on is such a short time frame there is a lot of room for error. When you've got a team of the caliber that Bob has, miracles can happen.
What was the previous record in Bobs class set at?

Well... not yet at least. But it has been knocking on that door for quite awhile now.
Bob's hotrod has a lot left in it... and "a lot" is understated. One must remember that in this game, it is an exponential horse power requirement to go just 20mph faster. Besides... this was more of a "nut and bolt" shakedown for a chassis that has never seen any kind of velocity... street or otherwise. Believe me... Bob's pit was a proverbial brain trust of some incredibly talented individuals. They did "it" right.
But yeah... its not often you'll find a truely licensed street car running in the realms.
I am going on the assumption that this is not the Vette's first trip to Bonneville. I doubt whether you can build a car from scratch and go out the first time and run maximum potential. Lots of sorting and getting the bugs out that has to be done regardless of the licensing of the driver.
You have assumed correctly. The chassis has been on the salt for more than 30 years... but it is... I think... it's 7th year on the salt as a true competitor.
You also nailed it on the head that you can not just build something and come out and run it terminal without putting it through the paces...as there are things to work out and/or modify to get the chassis into a class form and make a 'record' stick if it is in contention. There are cats out there that have been racing their cars for more years than I can remember... and a few of them are just now getting into the "2". In fact... one of the guys in our club has been racing since before I was born and made it into the "2" this meet. Man... that is a long time and a lot of racing to get there. Even considering that the car was built as a capable 200+ mph chassis some 40 years ago.
Licensing really isnt an issue... but you still have to get your "D" to get your "C"... to get your "B"... to get your "A"... to get where Im going with this. Yeah, it does take time. But there is NO REPLACEMENT for seat time on the salt (or at El Mo). It is a truely different kind of mentality to this type of racing. Well... that and you need a car (or borrow one) that is capable to get you into the next licensing class.
For those of you that are interested and can make it our, the next Bonneville meet in in October. Hopefully Bob and the boys can make it back out... as the temperatures are down quite a bit and that is when you really see the big numbers from those capable. I think Bob's chassis, as it sits, is capable of 258-264... but I think its gonna take a little more power to get to the big three ohh....

It's very hard to set a car up when you can only get a run a day in. I wish they would speed the process up a bit. Get all the cycles and Mickey Mouse stuff on a track of their own..Why do you need to wait for a Whizzer to make it to the end of the course when you have a 250CC motorcycle running behind it..Damn they should be able to run 1 minute apart. Sitting 4 or 5 hours in the hot sun to make a run gets old very quick. It just isn't a great spectator sport because the runs are so far apart and it's so far away from where you can see anything.
The salt sucked..when we made our Record back up run Thursday, the salt was very wet as it had rained Wed. night..It cost me $1,000 to get my truck and trailer out of the RIVER at Lands end. They put up cones after I got stuck to keep anyone else from going thru the middle. I saw land popping up all the way thru the middle...Problem was, between some of the high spots, were some low spots..Floyd Cotterpin got stuck somewhere in the pits or around there. I didn't see anything on it but that big as* wrecker that winched me out, evidently got stuck trying to pull Floyd out..I heard it was almost turning over after it sunk in. I'd hate to see his bill...Made for good TV though I bet. Fried all the wiring on my truck and trailer pigtails..sitting in the water for 4 hours took a toll on them..melted the pigtails..Motor and trans started running hot on long hard pulls...Salt had gotten in the radiator and coolers..that fricken salt is some bad stuff..took the whole Caddy apart when we got back..hopefully I got it all out from under my truck and trailer. Those aluminum Moon wheel covers were pitted from the Salt. I was praying for a big rainstorm on the way back. 2 and 1/2 days and not enough rain to fill a thimble. If I hadn't wanted it to rain, it would have been a driving rainstorm half the way back...that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Bill, sounds like Bob should have taken some driving lessons from me. No way I was going slow enough in that salt water to high side anything!
Seems like sitting in it for 4 hours did more damage than splashing in it and my way was more FUN!
There was salt on the underside of the hood, on the valve covers, everything on the underside was caked with salt.
There were pounds of salt on the ground in the pressure when we pulled out.
It cleaned up really nice!

If you want good grits, you need to get some good stone ground corn. People don't know it but good corn meal is grits..it's just stone ground corn..the ticket is to use half and half or some people use mostly heavy cream..High end resturants do this..It was much bigger a few years back than it is right now. Shrimp and good rich grits..hot damn..it's good...give me some good eggs over easy to medium, some good grits, fresh biscuits, good aged country ham cooked slow and easy with some good sawmill or red eye (not the red/brown eye like Grayson Jim craves)gravy and I'm in heaven..I love a good breakfast and it's terrible for you with the eggs, ham, sausage, Bacon biscuits etc...but I never heard of anyone getting out of here alive yet...

Yes, now that you mention it Bill's grits did have a consistency like sand.
Those were very good grits, thank you very much. I can not help it if you NYC guys would rather have a bagle for breakfast.:bsjerk:
Everyone there, Alan, Angie, Alan's mom and dad, Bob, me, rabbit, his son and even Ca. Alan ate a pot full every morning so they must not have been too bad. You need to spend more time south of the M/D line and get some good ole southern culture......
Good pictures of Cotterpin's problem, but others had the same problem. You may recognize the vehicles in the attached picture.

That episode cost me a cool $1K..he had to come there to pick up his truck anyway...he spent all of 15 minutes on it...pulled me about 10 ft. if that was a grand, I'd hate to see Boyd's bill...that was an ugly series of events...reminds me of that video that the car ran off the mountain highway...they got a wrecker to winch it out...it fell over the cliff..then a big rig came out to pull the car and the other rig out and it fell over too..You can cook some good groceries...those hamburgers you did were killer too...you just cooked the bacon a little to quick...I have started cooking bacon in the oven..it makes it so much better thanin fry pan..just what I need..some pork fat...

I said after I ate the grits that they were my first grits and I didn't see what the big deal was. But you are right, No wonder we eat Bagles for breakfeast.

I sat there in that blazing hot sun for 4 hours...the exhaust pipe was in the water...it was bubbling out and churning water if I ran it so I just sat there sweating..he was in Salt Lake City..He said he had to come and get his big rig which was at Lands End...I was looking at it. I waited for twice the time he said it would take...He had gone to pick up some yahoo who didn't even have the money to pay him...so he had to come out with him and help him to work off his debt. He was a dumb phuk and didn't know how to do anything but stand there looking stupid..(kinda like me)..anyway..he drove out to the other side..ran a cable out and hooked it to the axle of my trailer...pulled me a few feet and viola..I was free..of the watery death and my $1,000.00..Higher than a Philadelphia lawyer..If that cost $1K..Boyd's bill should have been about $50K..I should have had Cooper there to put a little Yiddish persuasion on him..lol...

My father is 93...he's eaten enough country ham, eggs, biscuits to choke a horse. He's eaten at least 7 servings a week for his adult life. He is riddled with Arthritis but he still thinks clear and gets around ..slowly but he gets around...drives everyday and lives on his own..so the ham can't be as bad as they say it is for you...I ate at the Log Cabin with Bill and Melinda...the ham was good as was the rest of it too..

Hahah, Bob, you reminded me of a quote from one of my favorite movies:
Grandpa Gustafsen (Grumpier Old Men)
What the...what the hell is this? I weigh 90 goddamn pounds and you bring me this slop 'n foam!?
Let me tell you something, Johnny. Last Thursday I turned 95 years old. And I never exercised a day in my life. Every morning I wake up and smoke a cigarette and I eat five strips of BACON! For lunch, a bacon sandwich...and for a mid-day snack...BACON! A whole damn plate...and I usually drink my dinner! Now according to all them flat-belly experts, I should've took a dirt nap like...thirty years ago. But each year comes and goes, and I'm still here. Ha! and they keep dyin!

Since this has turned into a southern thing thread, here are a few more things........
That's what I like about the SOUTH
The 'Rules of the South' are as follows!!!
1. Pull your droopy pants up. You look like an idiot.
2. Turn your cap right, your head isn't crooked.
3. Let's get this straight; it's called a "gravel road." I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way.
4 They are cattle. That's why they smell to you. They smell like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? I-40 goes east and west, I-65 goes north and south. Pick one.
5. So you have a $60,000 car. We're impressed. We have $250,000 cotton strippers that are driven only 3 weeks a year.
6. So every person in the south waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept.
7. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of doves are coming in, we WILL shoot it out of your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time.
8 Yeah, we eat catfish &; crawfish. You really want sushi & caviar? It's available at the corner bait shop.
9. The "Opener" refers to the first day of deer season. It's a religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November.
10. We open doors for women. That is applied to all women, regardless of age.
11. No, there's no "vegetarian special" on the menu. Order steak. Or you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham & turkey.
12. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. We use three spices: salt, pepper, and ketchup! Oh, yeah.... We don't care what you folks in Cincinnati call that stuff you eat... IT AIN'T REAL CHILI!!
13. You bring "coke" into my house, it better be brown, wet and served over ice. You bring "Mary Jane" into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair.
14. College and High School Football is as important here as the Lakers and the Knicks, and a dang site more fun to watch.
15. Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards -- it spooks the fish.
16. Colleges? We have them all over. We have State Universities , Universities, and Vo-techs. They come outta there with an education plus a love for God and country, and they still wave at everybody when they come for the holidays.
17. We have more folks in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. So don't mess with us. If you do, you will get whipped by the best.
18. Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump crap ain't music, anyway. We don't want to hear it anymore than we want to see your boxers! Refer back to #1!

getting the XLR ready to go back to run at Bonneville on Oct 3-6th. We've made a few changes and think we've figured out why it wasn't wanting to accept throttle when it was pulling hard in the 220's. Our engine builder had put 2 wastegates on it..1 would have been enough...but the problem was, he put the same size springs in both making them fight each other. Alan Dudley from Young's Performance came down to educate Alabama Alan Johnson on the fuel computer that Dudley sells. it's a very good system and is super user friendly. Alan just hadn't seen anything on it but a wiring diagram. So I wanted him up to speed on it since we had some problems at Bonneville our last trip. Dudley saw the wastegates and immediately said that was our problem..He knows what he's talking about. After a couple of hours Alan Johnson said he felt so much better about the whole set-up and learned a ton from Dudley in those 2 short hours. Alan J. has never been associated with an alcohol burning turbo car before. Everything seems to be looking good and we feel confident the car will run over 250. Have to do that to get in the 200 club. I don't want to go much faster until we get it in a wind tunnel. Just a step at the time. Next year we're hoping to get to that elusive 300mph

Talked to TRAPIN and he is going to try and get to the powers to be at GM for us. He agrees that the Caddy would be a nice addition in GM's booth. Wouldn't it be wild if I've been talking to all those guys at GM and my association to Pro Touring and Muscle Rides leads to the car getting in SEMA...just dreamin..but that's what these sites are about..educating ourselves and networking..and a little humor on the side doesn't hurt either..lol
