Even though my car won't be on the road for another year, I registered it today so that I could secure my vanity plate.
The bad news is, here in NH we have an annual excise tax (but no sales tax). However, I was glad to find out that the tax is based on depreciated value only. The value, according to the state, of my '69 Firebird is $2800. :hammer: The annual is $11.50 to the town and $34.10 to the state. So only $45.60 total (annually). She did mention however, that states like MA are getting wise to the rising value of classic cars and are starting to use resell values not depreciated values.
What are you guys in other states that have vehicle excise tax paying to reg your car?

In Iowa classic cars (over 20 or 30 years old) are $12.50 I think.

Iowa is a little different, I am not real sure how it breaks down but my '67 Bird is $21/yr, 16 for the registration, 5 for the vanity plate.
Newer Pickups are curently cheap to register, less than $100, compared to SUVs and minivans.
Our 2000 Tahoe is close to $200 per year.
I think my '70 C-10 is around $16 or $20 per year too.

All we have in NY is the sales tax (8.65%) you pay when you first register the car. Then it's like $50 for the registration each year. I don't know how you guys put up with annual taxes. Paying $2K a year on a new car in taxes would suck royally.

It's all relative though (for the most part). I work from home and there is no State Income tax in NH. So if I compare the savings on that to the nearest state income tax (I believe MA is 5.5% income tax) I have saved enough on income tax to pay for my property taxes and my vehicle taxes with money to spare. So I feel like I am ahead of the game! :usa:

Say what you want about Alabama, but when it comes to taxes we are usually lowest. State government stinks but at least it's cheap. Over 30 year old vehicles get an antique tag for a one time fee of 10 bucks, it lasts forever. Other tags are based on a depreciated assessment value, before my truck went antique, it's tag was about $2 tax and $25 of issue fee.

My wife's Expedition is up this month, 2 year registration is $83.00, plus state inspection cost (usually around $10.00). We also have to pay property tax (or excise tax) every year for every motorized vehicle we own, the state estimates the value! (Missouri) :usa:

In Tennessee you pay sales tax on any transaction at the time of the sale. Cars 25 years and older are eligible for Limited use Antique tags. They cost $25.00 on time and are good for the whole time you own the car.
We DO NOT have a state income tax, excise tax, personal property tax or any of those other bull**** taxes. Only SALES TAX!
If you do not want to pay sales tax, don't buy anything!!!
It is still your choice on how much tax you choose to pay!

Michigan authentic year tags are $30 one time valid for as long as you own the car. Antique tags are $35 and good for I think 10 years.
