I've been following a thread over at cc.com for a while now, It was started by BossBill and the thread title is "building a track car the hard way". For all of you that ever follow any threads at cc you know of course it is filled with lots of useful info. Although I am afraid to post a thread there in fear of getting reamed. It has alot of good stuff for the early mustang guys.

Now as with everytime that something new comes out for My mustang, I finding myself wanting to tear my car apart for the 5th time in search of better handling. So I have decided that I want to ditch the shock towers on my car, to not only clean up the engine compartment but to add room as well. I realize that Heights, Fat man, and Rod and custom all offer MII based front ends to ditch the shock towers, but it has been repeatedly said that NONE of them have good "Pro Touring" geometry. So who does make a SLA suspension that can be welded in to the front frame rails, similar to the height and others, that does have good geometry?

I dont really care if Its designed for the mustang or not. As long as it could fit in their and I would like to keep the 5x41/2 bolt pattern. I was looking at the Chassis Works Street Machine front assembly's. Does anyone know if they are any better than the others, or what company does offer a good option.

Sorry for the lenghty post, A lot of thoughts rolled up.

Griggs offers a GR-350 kit that gets rid of the shock towers and their track record and performance is respected even over at C-C.

Having seen Griggs stuff run on the track, and knowing that you want to ditch the shock towers... that would be my choice.

Nothing to add other than I just wanted to say that those fellas over at corner carvers are one tough crowd...

we used heidt's ifs on the front and it feels just like a new car

it may not be the absolute best for handling/racing, but it's lightyears ahead of the factory stuff

Blown353: Wow. I just looked at the griggs SLA setup for the 64-66 mustangs. It really does look nice, But the price for the whole kit is like $6600. Im not sure if losing my shock towers is worth that much. I dont even think that I spent that much rebuilding the car the first go around.

absolom: How would you rate the heidts kit? Based on the design, functionality and fit. Also what new car would you compare the handling too? I really do like the look of the heidts kit I just dont want to trade out the suspension I have for something that really isnt that much better. Have you gotten any road course time, or even some free spirited backroad driving?

thanks

we recently finished it, and i haven't had very much time behind the wheel, but just going around the parking lot, it just felt so much differently than a normal mustang, fit and finish were great, very detailed instructions, and the fabrication wasn't that bad

it's a decent bargain as well, 2500 or so for a complete front setup with rack and pinion and everything...

of course bigger brakes and such will add a bit to that
