Just a quick update. Been absoutly covered up at the shop and hardly anytime to work on our own toys. But with Year One just 11 days away, we thought we should get some color on the Monte.
So it's Sunday night, Monday morning at 2:30AM, and its still wet in the pics. Michael did a bang up job on "the driver" shooting it in all 3 stage colors. White pearl, Magnetic red, and peral black Mica.
Thanks to Carter Hickman for the great design. I think seeing it painted is just enough to get us over the hump. All it needs now is the motor / trans installed, the complete interior installed, all the stereo stuff installed. But we have 11 days and the 67 Vette to paint Weds and to get ready for the show too. Sounds like were right one schedule!
Michael says hes driving it to Year One, so lets see
More pics to follow when we get it in the sun and let it light up all that pearl

Nice! How did you flex the front bumper, or was the car together when you shot it?

Bill, what do you mean by flex the bumper?

I am not sure what you mean by flex either. The paint we use does not require a flex agent so we can spray steal and plastic all at once.
This car is absolutly no show car so it was not painted all in pieces. He pulled the dors (to eplace the damaged right door and repair the hinges on the driver door. He sprayed the jams in pearl white and cleared. Then scitch brited them before hanging the doors. Then taped the insides and interior off and fogged the jams slightly with color and cleared everything wet for no edges and full color into the jams. The car was painted all together as you see it with the doors swinging. The car was still dripping wet in the pictures.
He swung the motor and trans in last night. The brackets for the 13" / 12.2 Wilwood set up should be in today, If the planets are aligned, it should run by Friday, we will recover the seats, new headliner, and install the interior this weekend. Then send it to the stereo shop to finish the stereo install Monday. We are hoping by next Tuesday he can drive it and shake it down for the drive to Atlanta, UGH!
More pics tomorrow.

Frank, Maybe he is confused because the fender extension piece is off of the front fenders & it makes it look like it does not align.

Sweet! If you don't mind me asking, whose paint products do you use? Last car I shot was in Dupont Premier, and you needed flex agent (only in the clear, if I remember correctly).
Funny story, I painted a SPL compitition car (Honda, yuck!) for my brother-in-law. He bought it off of one of his employees who had alread installed some sort of ground effects kit. The kit was all urethane, and as I was spraying the Premier, it had to have flex agent in it when spraying the urethane. Only problem was, I couldn't find a good place to tape it up to spray the steel seperately from the urethane, so... I added flex agent to the whole mix. A buddy of mine rubbed it out, he said it was a pain in the, well, you know.
I'll need to shoot my ASC/McLaren sometime in the next year or two (small rust spot, few scratches, that sort of thing) and would love to know what you prefer to spray.
I use a Sharpe for my base, and a Sata on the clear.
Anyway, looks killer... I can't wait to see it out in the sun! That's a pearl white, yes? 3 stage? Lots of fun to spray I'm sure! I hate spraying white, it's hard to see how it lays down, kind of like driving in a snow storm! Now get us some pics with the flares on it!
Thanks for the update!

Adding flex agent, but it seems that the paint he is using doesn't require it. Very cool!

Frank, If you were charging only for the paint job what would it cost someone? A guy at work & myself were talking about paint jobs & I was just curious.

A paint job like that one is a 16 to 20 hour process from the time the car rolls into the booth, we tape and prep it, and paint all 3 colors (2 of those colors are 3 stage). If someone had the car 100% ready, wanted this 3 color job, and was having me just shoot it (which we do fairly often), it would be about a grand. just one color or makybe one color and some factory style stirpes, $500 to $600
The paint is Sherwin William Ultra 7.
I will get some more Detail shots of the paint today, it looks pretty cool.
