View Full Version : I made this PS braket for my TC pump. Is it enough?

Swapping to the TC pump is very costly IMHO. If I didnt get the custom pump for free I wouldnt be doing it at all. So to save a bit I decided to make a braket saving $75-$150. I will be using a KRC tank and aqx hoses.

The Aluminum Im using is another scrap pile special I scavenged at my old job from a Machine table they had made and had to trim this section. It is 5/8 thick. I dont know the grade Al but it is very hard for AL and was fairly hard to drill.(again hard for AL).

Anyway Ive seen alot of Face mount type brackets so to keep it simple I did the same with face mount.

Its not done yet. I have to machine the Adjuster grooves in it and get a shorter belt so it is mounted closer inboard. I will be using all 3 mounting bosses with 5/16 hardware. I retaped the 8MM to use 5/16 also. The adjustment will be linear and not eccentric so that may be interesting to get it tight but shouldnt be hard at all.

Luckily the 5/8 is perfect for belt alignment. What do you think.

Personaly I'd like it better if you could get a third bolt in there for some triangulation at the mounting surface. I have never studied anything regarding metal fatique or bracket fabrication so I might be completely off.

It should be fine. It would be a bit better if your pump was closer to the crank.
Sweet makes a good mount for that pump, the lower one on this page is a block mount. The image shows the back side of the bracket. It has a slot to adjust belt tension and is only $25.00

Yours looks good, should work fine. I used the sweet bracket on my wife's car, and it's great. It's solid enough to not need any other bracing.

Thanks Dave. Here is its final resting area since I machined in the adjuster slots. I made a daummy belt using my old one cutting and stapleing it till I got the best and closest (useable) size. Off to the auto parts store to see if they can match i up to something.
The peice of steel behind the bracket is a nut I made that holds itself and holds the slot from opening itself up. I dont think it will but anything is possible. I have 2 others on the bottom also.

That's about where our Sweet bracket has the pump. I think the pump has a bit less leverage over the bracket in that position.

"TC" pump means?

TC means Transverse Compact refering to a bearing supported drive shaft. Some Type II pumps have a bushing supported drive shaft called a CB (Compact Bushing).

Thanks for clearing that up. I spoke to someone at Turn One last year who explained the differnce and that one (I'm assumming the bushing model) was not designed for the shaft to carry load in a retrofit situation. Something to that effect.
