I have just purchased a 1970 Impala 454 and I am wanting to know how I can tell if the engine is the original engine for the car???

Is the VIN stamped on the block anywhere???

I believe it is on the engine block head surface on the passengers front. It is a stamping not a casting.

Yep, stamped right in front of the passenger cylinder head in the block deck. Gotta look behind and under the alternator. Also, if it is a original 70 motor the casting number on the bellhousing flange behind the drivers side cylinder head is cast into the block and should end in 512.
