Im running 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee box. Quick ratio with good feed back. Its a direct bolt in, but you need to get a differnt coupling and newer hoses with the o-ring's. Got to Team Chevelle forms and do a search. There are many post about this swap.

The Grand Cherokee or 9C1 Caprice 12.7:1 box's only mods required are a rag-joint from an 80s 2wd truck, and 2 hose adapters, which are sold as a kit from LEE MFG. The boxes themselves can be found for ~$50, and the adapter kit is ~$85

Another option is a used LEE NASCAR 12:1 box for ~$250 on ebay.

What about a 3rd gen camaro box? I thought I heard it was a good swap.

3rd gen use the same coupler but also use O ring hoses. But if you get a 81 pump it take O ring hoses also.

F bodies have a little different internal stops than A bodies though.

There are a lot of bone yard swaps that are better than stock but most involve adapter fittings or different hoses and very few will have the proper internal stops and valving for your car and your power steering pump. Probably the easiest is a `78-`81 WS6 TransAm box but they don`t exactly grow on trees anymore. Lee NASCAR boxes are valved to work properly at about 7,000rpm (no suprise there) with a NASCAR spec pump. If you want a box that bolts directly on,has the proper stops and is valved to work perfectly with the pump you have on your car (whichever one it may be) you`re best off with a new 12.7:1 Lee street box. Each one is made to order and individually dynoed. Yes,you can actually feel the difference. Mark SC&C

Any difference between yours and the AGR or Delphi?

Thanks

Yes-

Ours start as a brand new Delphi 670 box, but is then dis-assembled by Tom Lee, re-vlaved, blueprinted, the case is magnafluxed and zinc plated, and then reassembled with some very precise tolerances and longevity tricks that Tom has picked up over the 38 years he has been building steering boxes.

I used an AGR pump with a fast ratio box.

I just ordered a lee 800 box from Marc at SC&C they are built to match your pump. I think that this was the best option for me.

Is the Grand Cherokee box related to the Saginaw 605? I'm planning to do a 605 conversion for my '57 Chevy and would like to know what else can be used.

i use an AGR box, when I turn right, it goes right, When I turn left it goes left. I dont know what ratio it is, but it gets the job done!

I went with the variable-ratio AGR resto-cruiser and I'm happy. It was under $300 and brand new, not rebuilt.

George,we do of course. ATS and others turned us onto them and we`ve been using them ever since. We used to use AGR but the steering feel and feedback of the Lee gear is so much better we switched and haven`t looked back. Lee also makes a totally direct fit 12.7:1 800 series box with the same great valving for about $100 less than the 670 box. As far as I`m concerned Tom Lee is the reigning guru of conventional steering gear. The pump used isn`t super critical, what`s critical is that the box is valved for whatever pump you`re using.
