Since we're doing the Power Tour again this year I decided to install some more comfortable seats. I picked up a pair of Scat ProCar Rally buckets and had the rear seat covered to match the pattern. IMHO they look somewhat old school, plus they provide more comfort than the factory buckets and add a little side bolstering without looking "ricey". Let me know what you think.

Looking good Dan. I'm hoping to get on the leg of the Power Tour in Wi and maybe some of the MI, Ill loop. Time will tell, have alot of irons in the fire. What tracks did you use for the seats?

What tracks did you use for the seats? Thanks! Hope you can make the PT and we get to meet up. I used the Scat seat brackets. The seats sit a little higher than the factory buckets. I'll leave them as is for now and see how I like it, otherwise I'll re-fab the brackets to lower them down a bit.

Thanks guys! I'm really pleased how they look in the car as well. I was afraid they would look a little too modern, but they have a nice old school appearance. I bought my seats and Nova seat brackets through Summit.
You can find more info on these seats and other models at http://www.procarbyscat.com

Dan, they look good. I am getting a set of 4th gen TA seats upholstered to match my 68 interior right now. Those old seats don't feel very comfortable after riding in them for so many miles in such a short time (like last year's PT). Hope to see you on the PT again this year.

Nice seat choice! They look factory. I noticed that you also installed 3 point belts. How do those feel?

Nice seat choice! They look factory. I noticed that you also installed 3 point belts. How do those feel? Thanks! I've had the 3-point belts for a year or so. They're from Morris Classic Concepts (vendor here on Pro-Touring.com). You can purchase them through Summit as well. They mount to the factory locations and are excellent belts. I feel much safer knowing I won't be eating the steering wheel in the case of an accident.

Those are popular seats and they look great. I've seen quite a few cars in person with them. MUCH nicer than factory stuff!
Who did your rear seat? Did they do the stitching or did you buy the material pre-stitched to match?
They are a little old school but match the car great. You did a great job with it.

I remember when the Scat seats were the seats to have in VW's they were the big rage in Cali, in the 80's
I like them, I've sat in them and think there very comfortable! I might even put a set in my Nova!

I finally got a chance to test out the new steering box when I drove to/from the alignment shop the other day. I like it! It's very tight and provides a positive steering feel. I will admit that it's tougher to turn when parking or driving slow, but that should ease up a little with time. I'm 100% pleased.

Sweet thanks. I'm ordering mine on Monday then. I'm going to try and get it here as fast as I can. So I can do a couple of things to the front end. I'm going to cut the front springs a little, install the front sway bar and then the steering box.
Also when I do replace the steering box what other little parts do I need to order?

Also when I do replace the steering box what other little parts do I need to order? The steering box doesn't come with a pitman arm so unless you plan on pulling the pitman (requires pitman arm puller) from your current box, you'll need to get one of those as well.

Ok. Do I buy a normal pitman arm or is there somekind of high performance pitman arm?

Ok. Do I buy a normal pitman arm or is there somekind of high performance pitman arm?Nope, just a pitman for a manual steering box. I picked up a Moog #K6150 from Summit, but most of your FLAPS should be able to get you the same. Be warned that the nut that holds the pitman arm on the steering box is a large sucker (1-5/16" IIRC) and requires torque spec of 115lb/ft.

What box did you guys end up going with, I'm in the market for one as well? sorry for the off topic post....
They look Real good Dan! If you were going to suggest doing the brackets different, what would you do?
I want mine to sit pretty low. I have a tilt column and a stock bench seat in my 72, any suggestions for a different bracket system or do you think the ones you have are going to work out?
Thank you.

Thank you. Thanks! I went for a little 100 mile cruise yesterday and while the seats are comfortable, I still think they sit a little too high. I need to study the brackets again, but I'm pretty sure I can cut the feet off the brackets and reduce the height by a good inch, maybe a little more. The seats themselves have multiple height positions on the sliding brackets as well. So it might be possible to alter those and not use the floor brackets at all. I'm going to take it on the Power Tour as is and see how I like them after 3k miles.

-JimHey Jim,
Thanks for the kudos! Sorry I missed your post earlier.... :dunno: The 572 is running fine now. I finally took her out for a ~100 mile trip this past weekend and surprisingly it got 13mpg with the 850 Demon. It's running pig rich and is tempermental as heck, so I'm going to try my 950 Holley as well. Either way she's going on the Power Tour this year. Take care.
