Got a question regarding a convertible top Pump. The pump appears to be brand new. But it has a leak.... When I pulled the seats, carpet, and the back seat door panels I narrowed down the leak to be under the pump. The lines are all brand new, the pistons work perfect and there are no leaks in the lines or the pistons.
I cleaned everything up and refilled the resevoir through the plug. I left the plug off and ran the convertible top to purge any air out of the lines. Top worked great and I finished topping off the resevoir with the top DOWN. I ran it a few more times and everything seemed fine and there were no leaks to be found. I put the PLUG back in and ran it up and back down again. Now this morning I noticed a leak again under the pump. Problem is I dont know if it is leaking from under the pump(which looks like it is pressed together in two parts) or if it is leaking from one of the two fittings. So my question is this.
1. Is there a way to pressure test the pump unit to see if it is leaking from the body of the pump(where the two parts go together) or the fittings. I am assuming that this cannot be done while it is in the car so how can it be done to know exactly where the leak is coming from? Like I said does not leak right away, only after it has been sitting overnight.
2. Second problem is that the top will go up and down but will shut off or lose power after about 4 seconds of running time either up or down. If I try the switch immediately afterwards it will not work at all but if I wait about 30 seconds then it will work all the way. Dont know if this is a related problem or if it is another problem all together.
Sorry for the long explanation but want to be thorough so I can get the right diagnosis for these problems. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
P.S. TRANNY FLUID IS DAMN MESSY. Thank GOD for Simple Green...
