Woo! haha. Off to the tin man on saturday. Get my tranny tunnel built.

Much lower in person, about 3" ground clearance on the front crossmember.

I decided to add SC&C's upper control arms with the aluminum adjusters. I also did the VariShocks. Installing is a bit different(gotta split the ball joint to get em in) but no biggy. The adjustments are pretty killer.

I copied Dennis' setup(well not part for part but close;) ) so...

Coleman Racing Fabricated Spindles
Impala rotors/hubs
Outlaw billet aluminum 4 pot calipers
straped and braced lower control arms
Steel/nylon bushings on the lowers
650lb springs with tall adjuster
stock sway bar
heim joint tie rod ends

The rear consists of.....

the stock 8.5 10 bolt
stud girdle
373 gears
My own pieced together lower control arms
My own built panhard bar mounts(axle side is a speedway kit)
BAER 12" disk kit

I built it on a budget. Then again, I raised complete hell with the car last summer. It was a blast. I know my car has rust, I don't care, I'm building the car to beat the piss out of it. Paint doesn't lower my track times.
I will say though... This set-up is pretty low. I'm worried about how practical it will be. I plan on driving it 800km's to a show this summer(plus a summer spot I always go to) so we will see. The softer rates of the springs and varishocks should help me out some.

Heres a few extra pics. I'll post more when I get back.

Its the 4l80e and 6.0l combo. Ran strong last year. With 273 gears in the rear end, when hitting 2nd I would get sidways. :) That was on 255/50/16 rubber/wheels. These wider tires/wheels are much lighter then the old setup and i'll have 373 gears in it.

Once the tunnel is done I have to get the car aligned, put the interior back in, tighten up some odds and ends, loom a couple wires, and get the exhaust done.

Thanks guys! It really makes a guy happy to hear the responses:)

I will snap a few rear suspension set-ups for you. I'm just figuring out what all is missing from my garage. I had the Chevelle on the trailer waiting to go to the tin man the next morning. Some *****s got in, stole my old wheels(the zq8's), some tools, and made one hell of a mess!

Thanks again :)

Ok here we go. Sorry for the car being a complete mess, its dirty and oily because of random leaks, not holding lines up right, and yea. Wrenching.

You can also see my tranny crossmember that I made. 3x1x.188 wall. Straight shot across with a mounting tab for the tranny mount. This places the engine/tranny where it should be. The BRP kit I used was junk.

Anyways, the panhard bar was a tight fit. The panhard bar can go below center/center/above center so I have some nice adjustability.

Thanks, those are my dads. He has a record Rocky Mountain Great Horned Ram, along with some deer racks aswell. But I'm not very current with all the hunting stuff haha.

Thanks for the comments on the panhard bar setup. It turned out pretty decent I think aswell. I will let everyone know how it works when it hits the road!

The 6.0l is stock aside from a mail order tune, no emissions, Hooker Super Comp LT headers for a 2002 Camaro. 4" intake. and dual 3" exhaust with no crossover. Gas milage was high 20's, low 30's a gallon cruising at 125-130km/h Then again I had 273 gears in it haha.

Thanks Matt, Is the mail order tune you got just to turn off stuff like the vats and egr? Sounds like the power is more that enough. I will install an LQ eng in my Corvette this off season. Wondering if I should swap the cam or anything. I have a feeling that it will be fine as is. It looks like you are using the stock truck intake as well. It seems to be just fine except it's kinda tall for my '65.
Is the big swap meet in Red Deer this weekend? I'm From Calgary and never missed one for many years til I moved. We probably rubbed shoulders at one time or another.
Frank.

Hey Frank, I'm not too terribly sure when the swap meet is. I always seem to find out last minute haha. I have a buddy that is costantly selling LS1/6 intakes for pretty reasonbable due to Calgarys wealth lol. All their trucks/vetts/suvs get the fast line of intake, or sheet metals.

If you want I can see if he has one for you.

The engine does have plenty of power but while its out, I'd put the coin out for a cam, springs, and pushrods. It will wake the motor up tons. The mail order tune is pretty basic by the sounds of it. Yes to clear the codes and get rid of the emissions that were once tuned in the program. The truck intake works better then the LS1 but doesn't have quite as much top end of the LS6. I can stand the look of it but some HATE it.

One more thing in my cluster of a post(I gotta get ready soon haha). If your car isn't going to see much highway time, or atleast have a 6 speed. I'd run 410's. The car would be a monster.

Matt, If the intake works I don't give a s#!t what it looks like. I don't red line my engines much anymore. A torquey around town and hiway engine is what I need. Can't get a whole lot of tire on those cars unless I get into the quarters which I can't see myself doing in the near future..

protour_chevelle
05-04-2007, 06:47 PM
yea, I should be able to get you an ls1 intake for pretty cheap. They were throwing out truck and ls1 intakes! thats how brutal and how swamped they got a couple months ago! let me check for ya.

Hi Matt, don't get an intake on my account just yet, I haven't even got an engine yet. I'm looking to find a late model all aluminum 6l truck engine.
Does anyone know the LQ designation for that one?
Frank.

protour_chevelle
05-06-2007, 12:35 PM
You wont be able to find a all aluminum 6.0l truck engine. The LS2 is a 6.0l all aluminum block/heads deal.

The new l92(or whatever it is), may be a aluminum block but I doubt it. They just changed up the displacement, heads and intake design.

00fxd
05-06-2007, 02:37 PM
Matt, I thought the '06 and later 6.0's were all aluminum......
What is the L92 avilable in?

Gordz32

The 6.2 L92 engine is all aluminum

00fxd
05-06-2007, 04:01 PM
I just did a little on-line searching. L76/6.0L, all aluminum - late '06 and later. Sierra's, Avalanches, Suburbans, etc. Sounds like a good choice.
Everyone will be clamouring for the L92/6.4L - 380hp.
Cool stuff. Anyone wanna buy a Holley Throttle Body Injected SB400 this fall? :)

Matt what shifter are you using with your 4l80? have a friend putting one in a 1969 camaro, I was thinking of replacing my th400 with a 4l80 but the choise of shifter has me on hold.

protour_chevelle

hey,

I used a pro ratchet B&M shifter. Let me dig up the part number.

edit: this is summits part number. BMM-80842. The shifter is for a th400, the pro ratchet allows you to pull a pin out which allows you the full selection of gears.

If you have any more questions let me know!

I might aswell throw an update...

Car ran flawless all summer. I installed a 12 bolt 4:10 limited slip rear end. Magnaflow mufflers attached to 3" exhaust from Hooker Super Comp LT headers.

The car would destroy the 295s in 1st and continue sideways into 2nd. The odd chirp into 3rd too. Stock 4l80e tranny, no stall, or anything.

1st day the car rolled out under its own power this year.

Matt, Impressive performance for stock powertrain. Whats up with your car for this off season? I was over in Calgary this summer for the Canadian Power tour for a couple of days, got tired of the rain so I came home. I would like to touch base with you some time and look at your car. It looks like my Corvette my not get the ls conversion this off season [again].

Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully the car will make a run out to BC this year. Vernon/Kelowna/Penticton area.

For winter time I'm going to try and force feed her. I would like to get it running with the hair dryer and then next winter possibly slugs, hardware, and shift kit along with a fuel safe cell. I want it on the road for "Super run 09" so I do bits and pieces each winter. That way its a completely new car every summer it rolls out of the garage.

Matt, do you have dates for you trip? I'm definately the Osoyoos Cactus Jalopies run June 21-23 http://www.cactusjalopies.com/ . Rat rods and stuff.
A good old time deal, engine blow-up, a real burn out contest [no chains] and a drag race at the air port run way. Rat rods and stuff. We ended up at this place for the BBQ. Unbelivable. Hot as hell there.

I usually go the first 2 weeks in july and the first 2 in august. I may alter it this year though. Depends when the car is back on the ground and driveable lol.

Matt. that is the same shifter that I have in my car I really liked the way it looks and operates. So you are telling me that that shifter has a pin that I can pull out and make it a four speed shifter? Can you ratchet through all the gears with it in your car or just leave it in gear.

I also am thinking about using C6 ZO6 rims in my 1970 chevelle what size spacers are you using in the front and back and what sizes are those rims? I also looking into the coleman set up that Denis came up with how does it feel?

Thanks for your help. One day my car is going to have that same stance

protour_chevelle
01-07-2008, 07:16 PM
That is correct about the pin in the shifter. If you have your instructions for the shifter it should list which pin to pull.

I can ratchet through all gears and also put it in drive and just go.

Spacers are 2 1/8" front and 2" rear if I remember right. Its been a while. I think the c6 back spacing is different from the c5.

They are 18x10.5" rear and 17x 9.5" front

The coleman setup works great. I really enjoy how the car handles. Much more forgiving now, The car turns tighter then my civic and feels very stable.

Thanks for the compliments.

Matt. I found the pin you told me about on the Pro ratchet, my car is at the tranny shop getting a 4l80e that I got a good deal on can wait to try the car out. Your trans is D.3.2.1? Is there a reverse valve body for a 4l80e?
Do you have a part number list for the Denis coleman stuff? What did that run you, how does the car handle.
Thanks
Ps What brakes can be run C5?
