I am building a 70 Nova. and after many changes I have decided to build a newer 350 roller possibly a 383. Now eventually I will be selling this car because I am a working stiff, and to do something else I have sell what I have got.

OK the question if you were going to buy a mild pro-touring car how much does the 4 bolt mean?

There are some really fast and powerful 2 bolts around. 4 bolts, I have owned 3 of them they are not any faster than the 2 bolts. But it is that marketing tool That people want to hear.

And I am having trouble finding a 4 bolt roller block in KC.

thanks

A converted 2bolt can be made to be even stronger than a factory 4. Keep that in mind... but a 2 bolt or four bolt makes no difference in power production.

For simplicities sake, four bolts dont mean too much... unless the build was higher strung or you were making BIG power numbers/forced induction. Just the mention of '4 bolt' or 'roller' means nothing... but who built the engine would. People dont necessarily want to hear the marketing mumbojumbo... they want to actually see the results.

I think the term "4 bolt" gives the impression to most people that it is a stronger block. Personally, if I was building a high hp motor, I would buy a 2 bolt block, & have it converted to 4 bolt splayed caps.

How much does it cost to have a block converted to 4 bolt?

Not sure, call a local automotive machine shop & ask.

If your doing just the three center mains, they'll get about 200-250 for the caps themselves and then about another 250-300 to line bore.

If your doing all five caps, they'll get about 350-450 for the caps and then 250-300 to line bore.

The general rule-of-thumb I've heard is that stock 2-bolt main blocks are good to 400hp safely. If you're building it mild, I'm ~assuming~ it's gonna be under that power level, so a stock 2-bolt block should be fine.
