I picked up my nw engine today and mocked it up only to find this problem, Now that I have AFR angle plug heads the #1 and #2 header pipes will not clear a plug on each side of the engine. As I see it there are only two choices;
1) new headers
2) have my current headers cut, rewelded and recoated.
I am not necessarlly opposed to either solution, at this point whatever is faster and less expensive will work.
Has anyone used a set of headers that clears everything including the angle plugs??
Sheesh, this is depressing....

BTW; this is for an 86 Monte SS.
Thanks.

I would say get the right headers but lets see a pic of the problem areas?

I think Schoenfeld headers might be what your looking for. I started a thread on MCSS.com awhile back asking members to post up some pics of their headers installed. I think they work with angle plug heads well.

Here's a thread I started on Maliburacing.com

You can also try asking AFR, they should very well know what headers should work. Then compare notes with the feedback you get.

Thanks Guys, I ended up ordering a set of dynatech that should work.
As far as calling AFR, has anyone tried it lately? I had no luck at all getting through to them. Thier customer service sux!

I have Hooker super-comp 1-3/4's on my afr's now and they clear; I'm switching to hooker 1-7/8 in the next few weeks- they look like they should also be ok. What brand and size headers are you trying? I believe Hooker lists if they will clear angle plug heads or not.

Like I mentioned I'm going with Dyna Tech headers, the open track design.
They are supposed to fit real nice on the Monte and clear the plugs. I was told by Hooker that their super comps would only clear OEM angle heads and not the AFR's. I dont see where the difference is but with the problems I had with the Hooker comp headers I'm replacing I didnt want to take a chance.
