Here are some pics of my g brace mods. My goal was to take some of the load off the cowl. The car is significantly stiffer and much more responsive with the extra support.

A close up of how the bars converge at the top to make a true triangle.

Some close ups showing the clearance around the air cleaner and shaker.

I still need to do some finish work before paint. I need to cut all the bars at angles to match the g braces and box the ends of the tubes.

slick idea...i'd been thinking of doing something similar on my car, but slightly different in location. yours may be smarter. :twothumbs

I would weld through-tubes into the cage and brace so that the bolts don't crush them. Otherwise, you'll have trouble keeping the bolts tight.

Good idea. I have been running some sort of brace across the g braces for over a year and crushing them I don't think is possible. I've broken bolts before I could crush the braces.

The square stock is another story. They 1 x 2 has started to crush a bit and that along with asthetics was why I was going to box the ends. Do you think that will be enough or should I put tubes in there? The bolts are about 1/2 inch from the ends.

I always put through-tubes in for bolts. It is more important than boxing the ends. It will prevent crush and provide a flat mating surface too.

No doubt the boxed end will help, but a through tube is a permanent and secure fix.

Thanks. It is easier to do it now than wish I had down the road.
