Well that wasn't much fun...
Anyways, first motor had some sort of issue, most likely to do with oil travel that took out the cam, crank and all the bearings.
Replaced it all and tossed in a slightly bigger camshaft. Replaced the oil pump with a reworked unit and tripple checked everything. almost 60psi of oil pressure on startup. :woot:
Fired right up and actually seems to run pretty good. Goes in for dyno tuning next Thursday. She's being a biatch at the end, but I will make her behave. lol
Also, we started pulling the engine Monday and had her rebuilt and fired up by Thursday. Not too shabby.
Here she is, with mufflers, running again for the first time. Should get a bit louder once the Magnaflows loosen up. Turn your speakers up.

Sorry to hear about the trials and tribulations, but glad you seem to have it fixed now.
Any idea why it failed the first time?

Nope, there were no "failed parts". The cam was a little suspect since one side was perfect and one chewed. Then again one side is under more load. The oil pump seemed to had a stuck valve. That might of caused a loss of oil pressure. We took the position of replacing everything it could have been.

14-inch... I don't know the part numbers. I a hundred or two miles they should break in and sound even better. When I get everything else done I will thermal coat the whole system.

Everywhere.. seriously.
I go to most cruise nights in the area, will hit Donuts and the Ford center.. Shows that are worth going to and any open track days that look fun.
What city are you in?

I live in Chino, Pomona - Ontario area. I travel frequently and I am home most weekends and would love to do a cruse in my 80 camaro and have a good look at the other cars out there. PM me with the next one and I'll try and be there.
Thanks,
Ron
P.S. Marty says you should have your hood pins today!

Looks good. Sorry to hear about the issues. I bet it feels good to have everything back in order.
Once I am done with the move and such (closing escrow on a new house today) I should be able to start making it to some shows and events. My car is ugly right now, but is functionally sound. Boy what a blast to drive.

Well hell, you can go over to Don Lee Auto on Foothill in RC and check it out. She's there now waiting to go to tune on Thursday. :)

IIRC, I noticed their name in a recent PHR article on the Fairlane. Did they do the alignment?

Yea, finally had a chance to have my friend Rob update it.. I have more just no time.
Hey, I'm driving to Phoenix tonight as well. Going to build a C4 tranny for the Fairlane at Hughes and shoot a twin turbo '64 Fairlane for a car feature.
Let me know if Tim is doing donuts in my car when you go by there. lol

No, not the alignment.
Don Lee Auto is where I shoot most of my tech stories. I've known Tim a long time and he's cool with me using a hoist. Also, he knows his stuff on cars. Good place to get work done.
There's an alignment shop across the street for the shop.

I'm leaving here in the next hour or so (3:30) going to stop by and see penny then off to AZ. I just got a TIG welder (Linclon 225) and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. The job that pays the bills has me visiting a customer for a few days so works out great! might just see ya on the road!

Well I made it to see Penny. Tim had the shop locked up when I arrived, but was a great guy and opened up to let me get a look! Well all I can say is, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL looking car....
I would hate to see what your requirements are for a "10" paint job as what you once told me that penny was about an "8" and is fabulous!
I love the hood hinges and may have to spring for a pair now that I had the chance to raise and lower your hood! Nice job Steve! Another one well done. How do you plan to top this one?
I hope to get Riptide to the same level shortly.

Not going to top it.. lol.. This is about the top of what I would spend on a ride. I will have Penny done and then get my "building fix" by doing cars for the magazine (like the Fairlane).
And the paint/body is an 8. A 10 is the Johnson 'Cuda and my car has imperfect door gaps and a paint blemish here and there. Then again that's perfect for what I have planned. :)
And yea, everyone that works the hood says the same thing about how silky smooth they are. Thanks for the compliments and glad you could stop by to check her out.
Well, off to Phoenix for a few days.

Tomorrow afternoon I will be shooting a twin-turbo pro-streetish '64 Fairlane at a small airport in Mesa, AZ.
It's Falcon Field, come by and you can help hold reflectors and stuff. lol
will be there from 1pm to dusk... Then going back home with my new C4 tranny.
As for Penny she was delivered to the dyno tuner today for some computer TLC. Wish I was there....

Car broke so I had to do the shoot in a parking lot .. oh well, except for no action shots it went ok. The ignition system fried up.
Yea, the hood hinges are REALLY nice. Most people that see and work them want them, even at that price.
PROJECT UPDATE... Dyno Time..
Ok, On the chassis dyno Thursday night. Unfortunatly he had an appointment so I didn't get to see a max effort run. This tuner is REALLY good and should have her running like a champ tomorrow. Saturday night we do the big shoot for Super Chevy.
Had a bad MAF so I had to have one next day air'd from Speed and Performance.. fouled plugs.. minor little stuff that fights you at the end.
For anyone in SoCal that needs tuning this place is top notch. The guy drives a killer '06 Z06 (at the track).
Oh, and my personalized plates are on the car now.. she's official.
Here's a vid, sorry I won't be there to get a max-effort pull vid, but I have stories to write.

Yea the price is a little steap, but after desiging some parts and dealing with material cost, shop time, one time setup fee's things add up. I still think they could be less expensive. They are on their way!
Great to hear about Penny, so are you going to leave us hanging or do the plates say BDPENNY?
You went with a larger cam what do you expect the numbers to be now?
Nice teaser video!

Time to change your signature on this site Steve. I can't believe we aren't going to be able to see this thing screaming on the dyno? Someone in that area that knows Steve needs to go by and film this thing getting worked! Car sounds great and I'm sure it's going to make some good numbers. Good luck!

Believe it or not that was taken.. so was BADPENY.. I ended up with BD PENY. Close enough :)
No idea, the Westech numbers were open header with zero accesories on a really "happy" dyno. This is on a Mustang style dyno with full exhaust and full accesories. I will be happy with 450 rwhp, but it's anyones guess. Could be as high as 500.

I will call the guy and see if can take some. His shop is in a semi-residential area so he exits the exhaust into two large tubes. This takes care of exhaust fumes but also routes the sound through a HUGE muffler to cut down on noise. He said it's sort of a bummer since it cuts down a bit on the sound.
Anyways, with the photo deadline I just want her home and on the road. I still have the fire system, GPS system and e-brake to install. And I still need the interior worked over, especialy the carpet. Nonetheless, she is getting there.
The shop is in Claremont for anyone local.

Dyno update:
He’s going to shoot some max-effort pull video today when he's doing the final tune. Peak torque is at 4500 and at 6500 rpm it’s still at 90% of peak torque.
He also said that the car pulls very smooth and very hard. At 6500 rpm it’s still accelerating at 7.37 ft-per-second which is very good. It’s also at 128 mph in 6500 in 4th gear. 5th gear should be good for?
His dyno is a brand I've never heard of but is simular to a Mustang dyno. Peak HP is just under 450 at the wheel. This should improve a tad once everything gets worked in.
The important part is that the torque curve is flat as a pancake. He volunteered to drive the car at the track
