I can't decide between an original but rusty GM Cowl hood for $150 and a Goodmark new reproduction cowl hood for $215!!

I've read the threads here and at Camaros.net and there seem to be just as many people who had good fitting Goodmark hoods as there are who had the rear corners a bit too high, and they had to manipulate the hood to match the fenders.

I can't post any pictures of the hood I'm looking at, but, the rear-hinge bolt holes are fairly pitted and rusted. Metal is thin. I'm guessing that they'd need cut out and a new strip of metal welded in place. It looks like the hood was outside a lot, possibly standing on it's back end. There is plenty of surface rust on the top where paint has peeled off, and on the bottem, back by the cowl. There are several pitting holes as well, underneath at the back.

Which hood would you get? There could be an easy 3 hrs of my time in stripping the old hood, PLUS 4 hours for someone to weld in new metal at the rear hinge mount. (shop is $50/hr)

I have 2 votes at work to get a new hood, no votes for the used hood.....and I'm on the fence.

How did your original hood sit? I got a Harwood 4" fiberglass cowl induction and the rear of the hood sits about a half inch higher than it should, but my stock hood did that, too, so it's probably a hinge problem.

I'd say go for the new one because even if it does sit higher than it should, you can always finesse the hinges to make it work, and that's free. :)
