hey guys, well i just got back into another first gen firebird. this one is an org. 67 400 4 speed car, but currently has a 70 455 in it and not sure what type 4 speed trans. the motor and tranny have about 5000 miles on them and work great. the body is in great shape except for some rust behind the rear wheel wells. other than that the car is in great shape. i just ordered the PHS for the car and it confirmed that for me, but also told me that the car was originally coronado gold with gold int. not exactly a desirable color combo. so this is where my question comes in place....

i def plan on selling the car soon so i can get a different project, but my question is what would make it more appealing to the public for a quicker sale. the car is in primer and will remain because i dont have the money to put into paint. so what do yall think would make this car more attractive to the market.

leave it the way it is with the 455 and 4 speed and do some driveablitly mods like ls1 brakes up front and some other mior mods

or... get a matching block and and try and keep the car as stock as possible? my only concern with that is that if someone were to make the car to original specs, they would have to paint the car gold, and i dont think that will make it easier to sell.

my concern with doing the mods that i want with the car and leaving the 455 in there is that the value of the car will either stay the same or actually go down. what do all of yall think. i really appreciate it.

if you are interested in the car let me know

There isn't a lot you can do to the car to improve the value. Throwing money at it isn't going to increase the value proportional to what you put into it. One thing you learn early on when building a car is, you never get out of them the cost of building them...
Changing the engine for "another" non-numbers matching engine will gain you nothing. The 455 is actually more desirable then the 326 the car probably came with.
Clean the car up, make sure the interior is clean, and it is running good and sell it. Do some looking on-line and set your price, you know what you would like to get for it so set your price a little higher and "deal" down to your low limit...

thanks for your reply bud, but it is a true 400 4 speed car, so that is why i say if i get a matching block that originally came with it that it might help it out some. but thanks alot man i really appreciate it

He replied exactly like I did on LS1TECH, lol.

True 400 is appealing for the shell, but without the #'s matching engine, any engine swap is just a waste of time. Let someone buy it and slap a 400ci LSX into it.

the matching block will have to be restamped to make it more valuable and that is a can of worms, unless you have "the" matching block, i guess it all depends on how much you have to spend,i would paint it,rather than put the 400 in it.just my humble opinion.

I wouldn't even do that. A project car is just that. Let the buyer paint it his choice of color. Unless you take the car to Maaco for a really cheap paint job you won't get your money out of it... And I will tell you right now, if a car like this HAS a cheap paint job on it, I will pass on buying it. In my book, primer is better because I can at least take it down in a few spots to see whats under it. And be HONEST about the rust. Point it out and let the buyer fix it. At least then he will not be able to come back on you if he chooses to do it cheaply.

well it seems that the verdict is to just leave it the way that it is and sell it like that... that works for me lol. i do have ls1 calipers that i grinded down to work with 15's that i was going to put on, but i guess i can sell those now. but thanks for all the replies guys i know where to go now.

Advertise the car now and sell it
