So I got a 68 Camaro that I am going to go pick up here soon. I am really new to this. Please help me plan my car. It is completely rust free, the rearend was taken out of it and a 10 bolt open was put in it, which I plan to swap out with a 10 bolt posi rearend. First thing I am going to do is strip it down and have it media blasted and have the frame powdercoated. Then have the body painted.

What would be the first things you would do to the car? Brakes, suspension? How about some ideas and places to buy the stuff.

what about interior??

I'd hold off on any subframe powder coating until you decide what front suspension approach you're going to take. If you do the Guldstrand mod, the SC&C tall balljoints or the ATS tall spindle then no problem; however, if you do the Guldstrand mod by trimming the UCA mounts and rewelding them or use a DSE coilover, your powder coating will be trashed by the cutting, grinding and welding.

As for the rest of the build, the one mistake I consistently make is to buy parts too early, only to have to sell them (usually at a loss) when my plans become better defined. Take your time figuring out what you want to do - SBC or LSx; auto trans or manual; AC or not; 3 link, 4 link, air ride or leafs; etc. - and do a LOT of reading here and at Lateral-G before you start ordering parts and spending money.

I do phone tech on Mondays and Thursday's from 6:00PM to 9:00PM eastern to answer questions about Pro Touring cars and build ups. This is by far the most popular subject. What parts should I run with my budget. We sell everything you will need to build your car, but this these tech sessions are not about selling you parts, but helping guide the member. You are welcome to call and discuss you thoughts, needs, desires, and requirements as it pertains to you Protouring project. We work with a lot of people consulting on their entire build from the beginning to help avoid the buy and then sell of incorrect or incompatible parts.

if you have specific questions about products we sell, you are welcome to call 6 days a week 8AM to 8PM.

1. Step one - Completely disassemble car
2. Step two - Create Blueprint for PT Project
3. Step three - Stare at car in pieces in your garage for 24-36 months
4. Step four - Sell car as "basket case project car"

:D Just kidding...if you are going all out, I would disassemble and label everything and get a good assesment of what you have that can be used, what needs to be replaced, and what you want to upgrade.

If it's completely rust free, getting everything stripped and refinished would be a lot lower on my to-do list.
