I might be in the market for a truck soon, and really like the Silverado SS, but was wondering if anyone heard of Chevrolet possibly offering it in a new version of the Silverado.
I checked the site, but they only offer it in the old style of the Silverado and can't find much searching the net.

I have an 03 SSS. From what I have read they replaced the SS with what they are calling the Speedway Edition. It's a short box standard cab 2wd truck. It looks nice, but I sure wouldn't replace my Awd truck with it. For the Michigan winters and towing I'll keep my truck. If you don't have bad winter or wouldn't use the truck for towing it'd be a sweet ride.

If you're talking about the LS2 powered six speed coil spring rear end short bed chevy pick up that they keep teasing us with, forget it.
Chevy is as bad as Ford anymore about making bad ass stuff for teasers and then letting the corporate types water it down so it won't sell............if they get that far at all.
When Ford made the FR500 Mustang with 10" extra wheelbase and "off the shelf parts" I knew it was so bad ass I'd never see one.

for the cash I would buy the most stripped vehicle I can find and do it my self.
Why spend 40k on a truck when you can get the basices(engine, trans, load rating) then hit local stereo shop for tunes, look around for upgrade seats/interior, wheels and tires are an easy upgrade. Figure a trip to local graphics shop.
Figure a cat back system, maybe a bed cover/spray in liner, and figure suspension later on.
Get with local graphic designer and come up with your own Logo.
A buddy did that and wound up selling 700 "kits" on his own at $12 k a pop for the dealer dropping a truck on him and he customized it over a months period of time.
The only thing that stopped him from continueing was he found out he had MS.
His set up was cat back, graphics, wheels and tires, and local interior guy dressed up the seat and door panel, power rear slider window and spray in liner.
His dealer had an on site guy do window tints and the trucks never sat more than a few days. I still see a few local every now and again.
Good luck on your hunt for a newtruck.

You don't have to spend 40K to get an SSS. I bought mine for $29200 out the door for a brand new one. My truck has every option except XM. Sticker price was $42k and some change. I got the truck labor day week end 04 they REALLY wanted that 03 off the lot. They were getting 05's in soon. I was looking at plain jane z71's, but ended up leaving with a one year old but new SS(had 231 miles when I got it) for less than I could have gotten the plain jane truck for. Right place right time I guess. I bet if you do enough looking you can find a 06 sitting on a lot.
I have also seen used SS's go for 23000 - 28000 with about 35k miles or so. Check out www.silveradoss.com you can normally find good deals in the for sale section.
Edit: you can't get the same engine, trans, or load rating in a stripped vehicle that you would with the SS. Unless you want to take parts from 3 different new strippers that is.

There is a 427 powered Silverado doing the show tour - it was featured in Hot Rod this month. Just a teaser truck I'm sure. I recently sold my '03 SSS for an '07 Avalanche, and I must say, the difference between the GMT800s and the new 900s is immense.

Just came from my GM Fleet and Commercial yearly meeting 1st off GM will not build a manual trans truck any more look for your SS next year when the hybrids come back withe E85 6.2 liter. Great thinks coming from GM in truck and rearwheel drive Impala V8 for 2008 or 2009 is ago along with 6 speed auto in light duty trucks.:hah:

It is a go for GM to get back into the Police Car business.
