Shipping Seats

Has anyone shipped seats before? I am selling a couple of seats & don't have the box's anymore. Wondering how to get this done. Would I try UPS & see if they have 2 large boxes to fit or is there a special freight for items such as these & they are just wrapped in plastic & trucked over?

I shipped some factory seats from a 67 camaro, 2 fronts and a folding rear. I went to a Uhaul store and bought some large boxes. I also bought some foam insulation board from Home Depot. I lined the boxes with the foam board. I also used the foam as filler strips and wedged them in as fillers. The person I shipped them to said they made the trip just fine. BTW, I shipped them UPS ground, very pricey though. Good luck.

I'll tell you this, I just sold 4 20" wheels and tires to Tennesee through DHL...


The guy who bought them from me signed up for an account with them and they came to my house and just took the wheels as they were. I believe he only paid $120 to ship all four.

But don't hold me to the price...

with the new dimensional pricing that UPS, DHL, and FedEx just started last month I'd bet it'll be very pricy; if boxed separately I'd guess $100 or more each.

Check first and also check with Greyhound as they often are much cheaper on larger items.

I figured it would be expensive, but wow $100 each or close would probably cancel the deal. I 'll check greyhound. I didn't know they ship packages though. I guess you drop off & pick it up at the depot?
Wondering how safe it would be to have them wrapped up, but not boxed. & put on a pallet? I could of sworn I have received items like that at work before. Probably wouldn't want to take that chance with an item that can rip or gouge very easily.

Guys, I have shipped seats thru the USPS via parcel post. Aprox. $25.00 a seat for GM buckets. Takes a bit longer but they are much cheaper. I removed the backs and packed in boxes obtained from the UPS store. Parcel Post must weigh less than 75 lbs. per box.

You gave "real world" on 4 tires and wheels, my "I'd bet" is from shipping two seats last month. Mine is an exact example of what he's looking to do.

On March 1, 2007 UPS (followed by DHL and FedEx) started a new dimensional pricing plan. If the length times width times height in inches exceeds 5194 it does not go by weight, but goes to a new formula. So a pair of seats that might be 20" by 20" by 36" tall is 1440. They then take that number and divide it by 194 to come up with the weight you will be charged for (that would be about 74-75 pounds you'll pay for even though they weigh about half that).

If you're shipping it nearby the price won't be too bad, but if it's a few states away it escalates quickly. I just had a gas tank sent from GA to CA; box was 3' by 3' by 15" tall and weighed 24 pounds. In February that would have cost aout $30 to ship; as of March 1st it cost me $96. to ship, as the size made me pay for 100 pounds instead of the real weight of 24 pounds.

Look into USPS parcel post, it will likely be fairly cheap, but realize that it is very slow. I just shipped some items to Tom Nelson Racing and he's only 350-400 miles away. Took a full week, and they don't even guarantee any time frame. Said most items take 2-3 weeks, plus they cannot trace these orders (even with delivery confirmation, ask me how I know!)
