I have posed this to another forum to no avail. I have a 71 GTO and am thinking of going with a 4L80E trans from Art Carr. I read an HR article which states you can keep the mechanical speedo and still convert to the 4L80E. Maybe my assumptions are incorrect that an electrical speedo would be more reliable.(?) So, question is: Is it possible to convert my mechanical to an electric (keeping the pointer) and still maintain the stock appearance? It seems as if maybe the pontiacers either have never tried it or are ignoring the post all together. In either case, I am not downing them as they have been a great help.
