My buddy bought a 71 cougar a few months back, which has a ford 9" in it, he has quickly discovered that the car is too far gone to resto so he has been parting it out. He also was given a 2nd center section, which is a posi unit with 28 spline and 4.10 gear set. The rear end measures 57" back plate to back plate.
Can ANYONE tell me how close this is to fitting in my 60 Camaro, I beleive my 12 bolt stock was 60", which my main concern is the spring perches lining up, or will they have to be moved. Has anyone tried this or where can I look for help???

I fit a 65 T-bird 9" rear to my 67 Firebird. It took about 20 minutes worth of measurements to confirm it would indeed fit. It is in place now and I see no issues with fitment. An advantage of a narrower measurement is a larger wheel offset capability. This will come into play when wheels are considered. Measure the center to center distance between springs, or spring pads on the diff in the Camaro. If the Cougar has leaf springs measure the distance between spring pads on the 9". If they are the same or very close then you are in. If they are about 1-2" different then offset spring shackles for the rear spring eyes will be needed. If the Cougar diff has a coil spring suspension, go to a circle track speed shop and get a pair of bolt on spring mounts. Then measure, measure, measure.

The housing length will work, but I dunno about your wheels. Stock Camaro housings are 59-15/16" axle flange to flange.

The Camaro springs are 42-7/16 C/L at the pin.
