If there is no tach, leave that one empty. The batt terminal goes to 12 volt ign. in fuse box. The stock wire for coil is not 12 volts.

If I had my druthers as a tech and a person who des wiring I simply pull the harness from the firewall bulkhead connector.
I either try to snag one from a junkyard car or ask around and see if anyone has spare wiring from another car similar.
On my cars I simply cut the resistor wire off atthe bulkhead connector and I solder in a new 12 guage TXL insulated wire in to the dist. and hook it up with a scavenged HEI plug or you can get them at most parts stores, or from Painless, etc.
My 70 Monte ran this way from 91 to 02 and never had any problems, heck I even rewired some old short damage and added my tach and linelock wires through the bulkhead connector even though the factory ran a seperate wire through the firewall for the tach.
I also prefer to pull the plugs and clean all that black sealer crap out of it and get it good and clean, then I use a contact enhancer like Stabilant 22 (NAPA part CE-1) on the contacts and then use some clear silicone, sparingly, and seal the back side of the plug to keep water out.
I had a fella bring me a 67 Camaro at my old job and I took the plug apart, used pipe cleaners, and different solvents to clean all the black stuff out, resealed it and used the Stabilant 22 on the terminals after I cleaned them in TarnX even. Now everything works perfect and when they repainted the car the prep guy left an open spot in the mask and theoverspray got om the plug and wires and becasue I hade cleaned it all up it was easy for the bodyshop guy to fix that simple mistakes, heck I was even asked to come in and show his mask guy(his son whos car I was supposed to do the same thing too)how I did it.
I dislike going to the fuse box as I have had problems doing this to feed an igniton system.
This I found out a few years before I started replacing the loom resistor,(well it was on this car that I figured out how to replace the resistor) on my 69 Pontiac as it got to missing on the high end.
I also had problems finding good new terminals for my factory harness plugs so I simply open the strainrelief crimp on the terminal, lay the wire ontop of the regualr wire crimp, recrimp the strain relief and solder it back in and reinstall..
Good luck either way.

Noticed that you were building a 79 elko, nice!
Looks like your headed in the right direction already, I suggest running the wire directly to the ignition switch. On every car that I have built,(usually pre-73) I have neverused the stock wiring harnesses! Painless all the way! I understand that shelling out 300 plus bucks on a harness is not on everyones budget, but I have yet to see an stock harness from these projects that did not have terminal problems especially at the bulkhead on the fire wall! Unless you wish to spend the time on completely restoring your wiring harness like Monza racer, dont trust wiring anything to the bulk head! Just a suggestion! Good luck with your project bud!

I have noticed the name Painless a few times now and wanted to add my .02. Go AAW. The Painfull kits are just that.

I've never had any problems with the kits at all. Never tried the AAW yet. But thanks for the suggestion! Good luck oddball383!
