front speakers in a 69 camaro

I'm having a whole custom stereo set up put in my 69 Camaro. They have all the amps and rear speakers in, but are trying to figure out the front. They are afraid if they cut into the kick panel below the vent pulls there won't be enough depth to get the speaker to set in. Has anyone done this or do you have any ideas of what to do. Thanks

Have some speaker kick panels made that will set the speaker out away from the metal. Most good stereo shops can do it.

Most of the shallow mount dash speakers for any Fbody car since 82 will work and as said before ,you can just make a spacer. There are many speakers now that will fit and have great performance. When peaking in behind the kick panel you will find that ther is a spot for the speaker and plenty of room. The diameter I think will work with a 4 or 5 inch speaker at the biggest but that should be big enough if you have the right system.

4" fit easy in the kick-panels. 5-1/4" speakers with low mounting profiles will also squeeze in there. You might have to trim a tiny bit of the metal to fit them, but that is simple to do.

Don't throw away the dum dum sealer that is there, save it. That stuff was still soft when I pulled mine out and the ball I rolled it into is still soft. If you can reuse it.

Does anyone use something different to seal them back up so you can remove them later?

later thought, why remove them at all. If you look at a pic of one of the 69's around here or get some measurements for center you should be able to cut the hole in several different ways without ever loosening the screws to them. You should be able to snake the wire down from the top with a coat hanger to the hole.

Well I pulled the whole interior out today along with the kick panels. Not as hard as I thought it was going to be.
After all the screws were out and the dum dum separeted from the body, I pulled from the uper left side on the passenger side and the upper right on the driver side, they actually came out easy. On the driver side I removed the parking brake and dimmer switch etc... I had the hardest time with the cables though.

How do the ends of the cables come off? They look like their threaded but they dont come off.
What do I do now, I broke the pass side grommet and now the the driver side is off but is mstill attached by the cables.

Ok I figured out the cables today. All you have to do is get your head up under the dash and you will see the end of the cable on the upper vent. There is one screw that needs to be loosened, then you just snake the cable out of it's hole, it looks like a Z. Not hard when you can see everything.

This was done on the drivers side with the parking brake removed. I would imagine the pass side would be the same.
So, you don't do anything with the push/pull levers at all if removing the panel only. If your removing the cables from the kick panel itself after thier removed, then there is 2 clips that need to come off.

Obviously when removing the kick panels, the lower cables can remain intact, you only need to remove 1 upper cable per side, .

Put my 5.25 Foose Arc audio speakers in my kicks last night. Had to trim some metal, but was really easy. Emergency brake still works and no spacers. Looks killer and sounds better.
