View Full Version : Made it to Good Guys... barely.. Penny's first time on the town.

Fixed the trans as mentioned in the other post and I band-aided the oil problem as best as I could to make the trip.

Then the alt had a problem charging. Seems "sparky" shorted out the part of the computer the triggers the alt. I know of a work around using a resistor but didn't have time. My car likes a LOT of juice to run. Anyways, we did make it to the Good Guys Del Mar show and we will recarge the battery before Sunday.

Big thanks to Best of Show Coachworks for all the help and to all those that got her on the street..

On the way to the show:

At the show from behind:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

We had to cobble together an interior.. this will all be redone later but will look mostly the same:

Under the lights. This was my first indoor car show in 20 years or so. Nice to not be sweltering under the sun. She certainly will never be this clean again. lol
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

If anyone here is at the show be sure to say "howdy". I'm going to be there all day Saturday and Sunday :)

With this done I will have a spare second to get caught up on mailing, phone calls and emails... I'm pretty beat right now.

I would just be standing by that car for the entire show. There would be no point in going to look at the other cars. Just stand there and stare...and stare....and stare. Eventually a security guard taps me on the shoulder to tell me they're locking up for the night.

She's far from perfect.. the engine bay is pretty close though. The car is perfect for actually driving.

Oh, yes, the trunk is open. Although it does have new weatherstrip so it sits a tad high when latched.

Yea, I will have to find another place for the emblem soon since that's where my Racepak track computer is mounting.

And what good would that computer be if I didn't kick the crap out of the car? lol

I know how to fix all the probs, just a matter of having the time.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, the "light at the end of the tunnel" is a nice thing.

Many people worked their @sses off to get this car done. Also, my wife has been a saint with all the "gone saturdays" and "home at midnight" deals.

Wow Steve!! I am going to try to make it out there. Don't know if I will be able to, but I am going to try. I ended up going to a small car show last weekend at Pomona Valley Harley instead of Super chevy, but thanks for letting me know about it on the other site. Penny looks amazing!!!

Yep, the Marquez lights that I painted. Painting them was pretty easy to do also since the lights come apart.

I would love to be at Year One... maybe I could save up some $$ and take her next year.

Yea, that was tough.. The original car was "edgy" and I wanted to keep that look. Most of it was stance, but I also wanted to keep all the old-school trim in place (sans front bumper).

The new interior will be much like the old one. Loop carpet (that will actually fit the new trans tunnel), The dash will stay the same (adding Racepak computer) and the door panels will go black leather but with a vintage look to them.

you need to send me an "under construction" shot of your '67 (or '69) :)

The car looks "better" than at home at the show. It shows amazingly well amongst the cars in the main hall (which, there are several other prominent showings, such as the current Riddler car a mere hundred feet away or so, nice but I'll take Penny thank-you-very-much). Many folks worked harder on this car than I did, but I put my time in too (on the hottest day of the year wrestling the roll cage), and it is truly a serious piece of work. We all have ego's, and I had hoped to have my own car done for the show and was further intent on whippin' Stevie's butt, but man, this car is really something.

Now it's time to get it sorted out, so he can drive it and get a good big smile for all of the efforts involved. Remember, it's not the destination, it's the journey, it's been a moderate one on this car, and the coast is looking clear, sweet, and full of bikini laden babes!

PENNY ROCKS. OUT!

What the heck happened to the original wicked front spoiler???? That thing was edgy and added an extra bit of "race" to the car. BRING BACK THE SPOILER!!!

I shipped it to Damn True.. lol

I liked the idea, but not the execution. I looked tacked-on and it was improperly cooling the front rotors. I am working on a design that will look a bit more engineered and less like someone went to town with a rivet gun and some metal siding.

I agree, I liked the look. Bringing it back now would match the new style splitter NASCAR is approved for the next generation race car.

Cool. I was thinking the little chin spoiler on it now doesn't do the car justice and seems regressive with the build style of the car. I'll be looking forward to the new version (I assume its construction will appear in PHR, right?).

Don't sweat it Steve, most car shows are judged by political car club BS anyways. If you aren't in the car club that is judging, consider that as a hard thing to overcome.

For example, my red '69 was beat in an indoor car show by a 1975 Camaro that was painted pale yellow, had a JC Whitney chrome kit on the engine, 15" Cragar SS wheels, and a ~gag~ polished diamond plate firewall. The rest of the car was stock and driver quality. I found out later that the owner was a part of the Corvette club that was hosting the show.

Well gosh Tony...what's wrong with that? Sounds hot.

My cousin is one of the biggest Car Show Gomer's in the midwest. He's got his Nova all prettied up with chrome wherever he can put it. Just the other day he ordered those chrome headlight covers that cover half the headlight. He was giddy as a school girl to get them in the mail and put them on his car. LOL!!! He and I are such different animals. I can't stand chrome, unless it's original intent (like bumpers).

I fully expect my car to get the snub wherever I decide to show it. Michigan is still lagging behind in the Pro-Touring scene. But that's OK. It'll be more fun to fish out the people from the crowd that actually get it. That's what I'm going to look forward too. That and answering all the stupid questions from the 'old school' idiots like, "Hey man...why'd you wanna put that big sway bar on there...how you gonna get weight transfer to the rear wheels?" "Uhh...gee, not really sure on that one, but I think Rowdy Roddy Piper is signing autographs in the event tent...it you hurry you might catch him."

Here was one of my exchanges with a street rodder at the show:

him: So where's your brake booster, under the car?
me: No, I have manula brakes
him: Oh, so it's not a street car

I then explained to him (nicely) that power brakes were only invented to make it easier for women and "weaker people" to work the brakes in high heels and such.

Oh man.. he got SOOOO pissed.. I just said "hey, look it up on the internet"

lol

Then there were the two old drunk rodders in their hawian shirts...

I get that brake question a lot from people at the shop checking out the car as well. Then they ask where my power steering is, after all manual brakes are weird enough - you must at least have power steering. Right?
