I just got my new Pioneer DEH-590IB deck today. The instructions say that it "should" not be used with speakers below 4 ohms.
I'm using 5.25 components up front with 2 way 6x9's out back. Both these speakers are rated at 2.65 ohms.

Should I be OK?

what model of componets and 6x9s are you using thats odd to see such a low impedence on door speakers...... Most are usually 4 ohms anyway

if it says not to do it dont do it....... when u run a speaker at a lower resistance level it will make more power but the componets will not be able to hold up to the stress at all an will eventually burn up an stop working......

and are u sure it says 2.65 ohms or did u read that with dmm hooked up with both speakers parallel thats the only way i can see a low load like that....

or you should run small 4 channel amp to those speakers if they are rated @ 2ohms or 3 ohms...... then you will get a considerable boost in performance

They are both Infinity Reference. Fronts are 5020cs rears are 9622i. Dosen't say anything about dmm hook up.
Here is the info on them.

Front

Nominal Impedence 2.65 ohms
Power handling RMS 75w
Peak 225w
Response 67hz-71khz
Sensitvity 92db

Found this, what do you make of it? Thanks

Infinity also created the new Reference series with 2 ohm voicecoils rather than a standard 4-ohm. The impedance rating of the amplifier or head unit is a rating of the impedance of the load connected to its output terminals. That load includes the impedance of the speaker, the impedance of any passive crossover and the resistance of the wire that connects the speaker to the amp or head unit. The factory-installed wire in a car is tiny and contributes a significant amount of resistance. The load that your four-ohm-rated head unit will see with Reference speakers is much closer to the optimum load than it would be with a 4-ohm speaker. A 2 ohm coil extracts more power from your radio or outboard amplifier, safely maximizing your sound.

A quick trick for this get a resistor rated for the maximum rms wattage output with a 2 ohm resistance and wire them into the positive of the speakers.
I personanlly dont like what those low impedance speakers do to the inside of the radios. I would go look for a matching low impedance driver compatible amplifier.
Pioneer stereos (while everyone with Pioneer thinks they are the latest and greatest, me I used to build steros and the stupid head units would blow channels left and right,, got 6 new ones with dead channels in closet, waiting to get them into the electronics shop to tell me to bring them in) in my honest opinion have the cheapest parts inside, and while everyone thinks them the high line they are the second line of the manufacturing company that owns them,, the first line is Kenwood.
you may get that head unit to live with low ohm rated drivers but I would bet the channels may blow a lot faster.
Dont get me wrong Pioneer make decent radios and the Supertuner III is the best PLL synthesizer for tuning in the buisness.
Hard to believe that thier were 6 versions and they found that the ST III was the best, others were too sensitive.
Good luck

Thanks for the tips, I think?

Been selling electronics for years. Most all aftermarket radio's can handle 2-4 ohms. Manufactures make them because when they're demo'd on a sound board they play louder.Just put a crossover on them.

and I have installed a ton or two, in a dash the head units will get hot and snap crackle pop, got about 3 grand in Pioneer in closet and cant get any of it fixed underwarranty, even thought it was all bought new.
Ill stick with what the manuals say " Do not operate this unit with spekers(drivers) less than 4 ohms resistance or the unit may be damaged."
Good luck

My friend do you have any real knowledge of your comment. Sounds like you may have had some problems with Pioneer in the past. I've been selling radio's wholesale for 18 years and have sold everybrand you can think of.
Remember Metro Sound? Cricket speakers with their lifetime warranty. Only problem, their no longer around.
I currently sell both of these brands and I would not put one over the other, there are both good brands.
Both JBL and Infinity, which I currently sell have 2.65 ohm speakers. Harman the parent company, OEM's for about every OEM out there and I'm sure they have tested completely the effects these speakers will have on a radio. Last week when I had training with Gary Biggs from Harman( He's one of the top sound competitors in the nation) at SBN in Daytona,This very question was asked and they assured us that this is not a problem. Almost 10 years ago Orion had 3 ohm speakers in their line. I played my Alpine's with these and never ran into a problem. The Pioneer Premier dehp590 is an excellent radio so rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give me the model numbers of the radio's, I'm sure if there under warranty Pioneer will cover them. So, what you're saying, based on the average radio costing 250.00, you have blown 12 radios under warranty?

Actually the head units were higher than 250. Heck I know 2 of them were nearly $500.
Assurances from someone doesnt mean much when I see low impedance speakers blow channels at least the owners had the cars before they blew as I never had the cash to spend on replacing head units.
My last Kenwood I bought as a previous year demo and it only lasted 11 yrs and 7 different cars. Now I have a $60 radio and it works well and drives my Marantz BP750 amp and my Boss Audio speakers. and as soon as it warms up I have a set of elcheapo Rockwood door speakers to install.
Maybe the stero in the Monza will get some serious attention to equipment, but who knows.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

If I were you I'd pick up a cheap four channel amp. There is a chance that those speakers will damage your deck (it says so in the manual). Get a cheap amp so that if there is stress from the speakers it will be applied to the amp instead of the deck.

Those speakers probably won't see more than 15 watts from the deck, so you'll really hear a big improvement even if you just get an amp that puts out 50x4. That and an 8 gauge amp installion kit and you're set.

Something like this would work: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_1702_Phoenix+Gold+R5.0-4.html
