Ok guys.... I have talked a little with Larry and Bill and I am thinking about putting together a little autocross competition at the Year One experience specifically for ProTour cars and the Pro-Touring, Musclerides & Lateral G forum board members..... just think ... If you click of the fastest time you will be crowned the official "bad dude" with the official "bad car".... Now, anybody that shows up and even has the cajones to run around the autocross track will officially loose any "internet warrior only" title that you are carrying around. :thankyou: Help me out here and give me your thoughts !

I don't have my car in running condition, but I would say this is exactly what needs to be done, go for it!!! If you have your stuff complete and have been a "cyber stud" regarding your vehicles performance, jump in!

Someone can design a "poser" internet forum mascot and then we can put it on a shirt with the red circle and X through it. I'll get the shirts printed if someone can come up with a good design.
Maybe the fastest time will get a jacket or something.
Tell me what you want to see...and if you can attend...and if you can participate.

This might be a dumb question, but I didn't see it on Year One's site or Road Atlanta's site. What are the restrictions on vehicle year etc. for this event. Basically can my '89 Mustang attend? If so, and I can take off on vacation I'd be willing to abuse my little 'Stang.

Bret - it would give me a good chance to test out the freshly installed Air Ride stuff!

That would be the image of a guy running around a racetrack on foot with nothing more than a keyboard in hand. Underneath the poser would be the saying: "My car is faster than your keyboard" :lmao: :hmm:

Steve, if you just slip Tony a 50.00 he'll stay at the display trailer all weekend and never say a thing about it. He's always at the trailer at least he was in Nashville this past year at the Good Guys meet.

I guess we could do a Cannonball style cash bash to get there. Everybody from the west coast throws in $250 and the first one to the event gets to collect the money. No trailers - bail money extra.

Here is another question...how many magazine guys have running cars? Can we get them to participate in a magazine shootout amongst themselves? If that narrows the field too much, I'll provide the cars and we'll just test the driving skills. :)
I think it would make a great story to see how the editors fare against the readers. Think about it...how could anyone lose here?

I'll go.

Honestly, I'm not a great driver. I am getting better, but my cars still have more talent than I do.

If you want to test editor's driving talent, put all of them behind the same wheel.

If you want to test editor's car building prowess, put the same driver behind the wheel(s) of their cars.

(Or whatever...)

My wagon is almost ready for another few years of punishment. However you decide to do this (if you decide to do it LOL), know I'll drive there in the wagon. It's a car, not a sculpture.

But, if you open it up to trailered rides - I at least want extra 'points' for bringing a driver.

Want to make it really interesting? Limit it to pump gas...87-octane pump gas. Let's keep it REALLY real. I bet readers would love it.

I'm keeping an eye on this one!

I agree with everything, BUT this.

My '01 SS is basically stock and runs like crapola on 87 octane.

Same goes for any cars running stock LS6s (or even LS7s), at 10.5:1, 91 (93 here in NY) is pretty much a requirement.

Not that I would run my late model in this event, but there are a lot of pro-touring cars with LSX engines, and even more with H/C packages or FI.

I know.

That's why I designed my 383 to run on 87...

...and also why I posted my desire to have 87 be the 'spec' pump fuel. Ya think I'm new? LOL!!!

The Conestoga will be hitting a lot of these events next summer. This summer it's time to get it back on the road and fine-tune the bugs out. I've got a slew of new goodies under it and I need some time to dial it all in. It should be fun when it's all done, though.

...and I still say "87 octane!!"

Oh please, so anyonme who wants to use superunleaded and pay the same outrageous price so be it.
You limit what I can put in my tank because YOU want to run 87 octane. nah you wanna be limited we give you G70 bias belted tires then .
See I may build my car with an older 283 but I am nott sure if it will run on 87 or 94 yet.
DOT tires, spec below USTOG ratings or above,, say set them at say 160 anyone running some tires over that run one class and under run other(this will limit race bred tires DOTs from street bred).
Come on drive it in and run it.
If needed the contestants run a ride and drive before.
If you want 87 octain then maybe we should also make everyone put on 15 in Cooper tires.
Come folks run what ya brung and hope ya brung enough.

OK...I'll bite. We'll have several cars at the Year One event. I'll put any and all magazine editors in one of our cars at the autocross. Best time gets...what? Give me some ideas...
I am more inclined to do this on the autocross track instead of the big track because it is a better reflection of suspension and driver capability and less reliant on horsepower. In addition I don't have the balls anymore to turn these guys loose with my cars at well over 120mph [been there...] The autocross track just keeps it more fun.
I think this should be in addition to the magazine guys bringing their own cars...it would be a great way for them to demonstrate their enthusiasm to the readers. But giving them a few rounds in an identical car is a way to even up the playing field. Hell. they might even ... [insert close up of Dr. Evil here]...write a story about it!!
Guys, give me an email at [email protected].

The cool thing about the autocross is that it does not depend on horsepower to be sucessful. On the big track you really need 400 to 500 hp to keep up with at least the medium sized dogs. Last year at the autocross I got thumped by a WRX that was stock [300 hp. I think]. I have no doubt that on the big track I could have made up the difference with horsepower.
Another thing about the autcross...it is much less intimidating. You can talk **** all you want, but being crossed up at 140mph is a LOT more serious than at 40mph. I've been both, and will likely again, but for low strees, low danger fun, the autocross is hard to beat. It's a great way for "civilians" to get their feet wet as well.
So bring on the 1000hp race gas trailered cars...I'm thinking we'll all be OK, at least till we get to the road course!

I left Pigeon Forge this morning in the malibu headed down to the event. However, in Cherokee, the rearend decided to spit out the pinion seal. Thanks to Gary and Mark, it is back together now and on the way here in the morning. Hopefully it will be all good, so I can try to take the trophy home. I saw that trophy tonight and really want not only the bragging rights, but the physical trophy too.
