Ok guys, I have dakota digital gauges on my 72 camaro. They were on the car when I purchased it. For some weird reason the gauges stopped working. I inspected the control box, and I noticed some of the little pieces on the PC board (resistors..) are burned.

I contacted tech support at dakota digital, and they sell the new contol box for $300. Or I can send them the control box for repair.

I live overseas, and sending the control box for repair will take longer than if I purchase a new control box. It seems like purchasing a new controler is more reliable than repairing the old controler..

I wonder what you guys think about that.. I know the cost of the controler is crazy, but I am afraid the repaired controler would not last too long, and it might fail again..

First thing I would do is find out what went wrong. I'd send the controller back to Dakota and see if they could diagnose the cause of the failure, then you can look to see what failed in the car to cascade into this failure.

Better to do that than to cook a new control box in my opin.

Man it took too long to get a reply, thanks Twentyover. I contacted Dakota Digital, and they asked me to sent the controler for repair. That was their recommendation. I did send it, and hopefully they get everything taken care of.
