Just got home from Houston Raceway Park. I only managed to make two passes, on the third attempt I raised the launch rpm up to around 6000 rpm (from 5500) and broke the driver's side axle shaft. Time for some bigger shafts, these are just stock 12-bolt shafts.

Anyways, here is the important info:

Car: 1969 Camaro SS, 6-speed manual, 348ci LS6, stage 2 heads, 232/232 cam, Magnacharger. 3.73 gears, Hoosier slicks on Pro Stars. Raceweight was 3435 lbs.

Weather conditions: 62F, 29.89 barometer, 39% humidity

First pass

60'=1.62 (13 psi cold tires, 5200 rpm clutch dump)
1/8=6.99
mph=101.42
1/4=10.88
mph=126.10

Came immediately back around and lined up again (no cool down)

60'=1.60 (no change in tire pressure, 5500 rpm clutch dump)
1/8=6.95
mph=101.05
1/4=10.87
mph=125.01

Did yet another lap, lined up, dumped the clutch at 6,000 rpm and POP goes the axle. It also managed to shred the supercharger belt when the axle broke, because the revs jumped up so quickly.

Well, my initial goals of running 10s with the blower are done. I'll be installing a fresh set of larger axles, larger spline count posi, and adding the NX nitrous kit next. Going for 9ssssss!

:3gears:

A friend video taped the 10.87 pass, probably have it up in a few days.

Thats great Tony. Beef up the rear and attact the 9's! It should be an awesome ride. I saw the videos from the 1/8th mile i bet it pulls like a bear on the last 1/8th. Looks like a fun ride!

Isn't that cool! I see you used more tire pressure, did you mess with the shocks yet? With the 1/8 mile et and speed, you should be able to go into the 10.70, maybe 60s with a better short time. A normal short time for that et / mph would be a 1.48 to 1.50. So if you can knock .10 off at the 60, you'll see .15 on the big end. Then she will run 10s in bad air.

Well, I didn't get to run 12 psi last time because it started raining. My previous passes were at 15 psi. Its going to be hard to get the 60' times down since I don't have enough gear for this power level and tire height. I set the rearend up in anticipation for the nitrous runs to come. Right now I'm shifting into 4th just before the finish line, so I'm definitely not geared high enough for the blower setup.

QA1 shocks at 2s up front, 6 driver's rear, 7 passenger rear. Didn't get the opportunity to play with those since it broke on the 3rd pass.

Probably won't visit the track again without the nitrous hooked up :icon996:

What gear does it have?

What gear does it have?

3.73 gears with 28" tall tires. Perfect for the nitrous passes to come

Opened her up today. Houston, I think we have a problem!

Think it will hold together if I use some JB weld? :jest:

This is a 30-spline axle by the way

Nice job Tony,great times. thank god you had rear disc brakes to hold what was left of that axle in. You might want to go through the trans before you put er back together,atleast drain and inspect the fluid. can't wait to see what it does on the gas.

Just an update. The axle was the only thing broken. I replaced them with custom alloy 30-spline Moser axles and long studs and the car is up and running again.

Probably going to send the supercharger off to get modified to increase the boost. 8.5 psi isn't enough for me!

I guess the rear disc brakes held the axles in?

It's good the tire didn't get into the fender.

Ouch...

Glad to see that was the only main issue...

You are correct, disk brakes hold axles in. Thats why I don't feel to badly about keeping the c-clips in there for now, haha.
