First of all I am a Certified Master technician so I do understand wiring and also I am a hot rodder and if the cash comes through I am going for some of the ASE/SEMA cetts this time.
Anyway what I have been working on with one of my suppliers is a complete starting/charging kit to sell outright.
It would consist of the folowing and the asterisks would be optional:
This is for SBC/BBC so far:
Mini Starter for 168 tooth with prewired harness, unterminated or with quick connect plug.
CSI133/*CSI144 alternator, 105 amp/*124/*140 amp plug prewiared and ready to install, except with a long charge wire(optional custom length charge wire)
* heavy 2/0 welders cable battery cables in premeasured lengths and custom orderable. and it will come with both long battery and ground.
*cutoff switch either surface mounted or remote and possibly even a key activated solenoid feed, this would simply have only one wire hot to key switch ,then the main circuit solenoid turns car "on"
I did one car with the key activated sloenoid as the customer had several instances of shorting out the wiring. We have even allowed for an accsessory solenoid so it only turns on whats hooked to it (ie stereo, video, neons, whatever.
I set one kit up and had 4 other of this guys friends ask for them and they told me they were glad to find something like this.
Nowwhile its not as cheap as peicing it together I feel the "kit" form would clear up a lot of problems for the electricly challenged.
Most think of the electrical system as confusing parts jammed on the car and not understanding how it works and integtrates in to the car.
After wiring many cars and having deleted wiring (such as racers wanting to take charging system out or to delete the ignition system then use a seperate (system wise) performance ignition.
Most people havent figured out that harnesses from factory are bundled together to clean things up not confuse you.
So what do you guys think.
Since I sold my othe rmini starter after loosing my job I now need to get another one and a proper alternator and hopefully I can find all the cabling I have from my last custom car.
I am hoping to find all my parts and post some pics of the way I like to see systems ran, both for safety and proper system performance.
