I am ready to fire a small block chevy with a solid roller camshaft.
The maufacturer (Ultradyne) is no longer in business. I have a cam spec card that says "hot" valve lash is .026. The engine was sitting for some time and all the rockers were loosend for storage. What would be a safe lash to get this engine going for initial fire up. Thanks,bc

This chart has always worked for me. Zero cam break-in problem so far.

That chart is pretty on- I always figured .004-005" tight cold for aluminum heads; but the .012 tight for aluminum block is what I do-- if you've ever tried to set valves hot with an aluminum block it's tough-- moves so fast as it cools off quickly.

Yep. Lash .005" tighter than spec when cold with iron block and aluminum heads.

That worked so well for me that I went with cold lash adjustments which was a bit easier. I always wondered about 'hot' settings as you went through the valves and the engine is cooling down.

I used that same chart when cold lashing the solid roller in my stang...and when I hot lased they were all within a thou or two of the hot spec.
