I found a Mercury Montclair local to me. The guy wants $700obo. I haven't gone to look at it yet but i will be this weekend. It needs a new front fender. anybody know where to find one? It wont really see track time i just figured this would be a good place to ask about it.
I was thinking of lowering it with an airbag setup. 18"/20"s or 20"/20"

I think if i cant find a new front fender it might not be worth it, but than again i have plenty of time to wait for a used one to show up on ebay or something.

"Anybody know anything about Mercury Montclairs?" Yes, they are ugly! However I did see an Edsel the other day that I also thought was ugly. The owner installed a set of 18/20 inch Coy's Wheels and it really changed the car and looked good.
I personally think the car has 2 many doors. About the only 4 door that looks great slammed and wheeled is a mid 60's Lincoln.

Yea, a mid 60's continental is my first choice. But this thing is cheap (i could prob walk away with it for $500), and it runs (390 FE). I like 4 doors on big bodies like the continentals, cadillacs and this car.

It looks a lot like a Continental to me, except with some extra body lines.
Is the fender the only badly damaged sheetmetal?
As long as it's not too wrecked or rusted out, I say go for it.
The slammed/big wheel look looks good on almost anything as long as it doesn't have gaping rust holes in it. I haven't seen a car yet that it didn't make some sort of improvement on.

Yea, that what i was thinking. from the pics i got it looks like its in alright shape. definetely needs a repaint. and the fender needs to be replaced. hopefully it will be as good in person. when i check it out this weekend.

Just be careful. That is way out there as far as hard to sell once you get tired of it. Don't spend much money on it, because no matter what you do to it, it is still a Mercury Montclair!

Very true i never thought about that. there is one on ebay and its current bid is only $380 (2hrs left) and it is in better shape than the one i am looking at.

its a 65-68 galaxie underneath.
if it has a 428 ("Q" code) engine, then the drive train is worth some $.
mercury-specific parts will be very hard to come by. but if you do find them, they'll
be cheap since those cars have very little resale value.
however, keep in mind that mercury used different names for designation levels:
montclair, monterey, marauder, etc. are all full-size cars, just at different trim levels
(e.g., instead of galaxie, galaxie 500, galaxie 500xl, galaxie 7litre).
if it has a 428 engine, C6 transmission, and factory disc brakes, it is worth more
parted out than whole.

Man thats sweet!
Think of it if you ever go into the engine edelbrock has some sweet aluminum heads.
Give'em a call at ART for air, as for me I try Memory Lane in Cali for a fender, if they dont have it they could possibly find it.
Also you can look up Old Cars for Fun in indy. I love walking through there.
Figure it this way get a fender and do the body prep your self, take it to a Maaco type shop after doing your home work or get youir practice in on painting that one.
Use the KISS rule, and with that engine you could even add a trailer hitch and pull a car too!
I like dare to be different and drive everything I got till it falls apart or I wreck it.
another thing that would single it out is find an old lincoln or Tbird with suicide doors and convert it (SWEEEEEET!).
I even saw an old Lincoln with suicide doors but instead of normal doors they were Lambo hinged,,,, very cool.
I never figure out if I liked that look till I saw it, now I am intrigued and want to do my Monza possibly.
For the price it would simply make a neat cruiser to weekend lounge in.
Heck you could put a mini bar, Taco Bell and a complete Mexican family in the trunk and still have room for a new Yaris!
Good Luck
