Hey guys, I'm kinda curious...I've been thinking about swapping to an ls2, and don't want to let go of efi if I do it. However, I think it looks a little unnatural to not have a stock-style air cleaner in a muscle car. Thus, I'm looking into holley-style throttle body injection setups. The big thing for me if i swap over is reliability, though... I'm fine with tuning it once in a blue moon, but I'm tired of having to tune my demon a couple times a month to keep it running perfectly. So, what's out there that's going to allow me to get my curves set right and rock out all year long? Or, is there any way to modify a stock ls2 ECM to use a throttle body?

The GM LSX carb manifold has the bungs for injectors. You could easily convert it to a MPI type setup with a 4bbl TB on top, then run a standard air cleaner.

I would not use TBI personally.

I wouldn't use TBI either. You can still have MPI with the throttle body on top of the manifold like a carb

sorry, that's what i meant. Brain fart. I would never consider running tbi...I just meant mpi with a throttle body on top so it would look more old-style.

Well I've run the edelbrck pro flow system on another vehicle and now am running a holley stealth ram system on my Camaro.

The Edelbrock is not as flexible for tuning as the Holley and you have to send your chip into edelbrock to get it matched to your cam. The Edelbrock also doesn't need a lap top to make adjustments.

That said when I ran my edelbrock is was damn near plug and play for me. I barely had to make any adjustments (used their performer RPM heads and cam as well) and it ran great for about 8K miles that I used it. Could leave the vehicle sitting for 8 weeks and it would still fire right up and run like a champ.

The Holley is much more flexible and I like certain features like the ECU controlling the fan and having and being able to adjust the idle for A/C. However, so far it has been a total nightmare to get it to idle consistently. I thought i had it about 90% where it needed to be and put about 1K miles on it and out of the blue it starts idling way high and surging on me again. At this point I'm beginning to think either the IAC motor is bad or the ECU works like total **** to control it. Only way I can get it to idle without surging is to adjust the throttle blades far enough the ECU doesn't really use the IAC motor.

You must REALLY like the look of the air cleaner to use anything other than the stock induction. To get rid of the stock efi and switch to an aftermarket efi just because the throttle body is on top of a conventional 4v manifold seems like a large step backward, especially since you indicated the desire for reliability and lack of need for tuning. Unless, for some reason, you just got a long block or I'm missing something else in your post. It would be odd to get just an ECM with it, though. I think I would just glue a tri-power or some other type of long air cleaner on top of the intake first. ;) Good luck.
