I am in the planning stages of building a LS1 powered, mid engine car for track use. The transaxle is always the problem for something like this, but I think I have found a good solution. Based on Phil West's Corvair I found here, the Shrifter, and the ability of Megasquirt to control the trans, I have decided I want to use a 4L60E and paddle shift it. Now for my questions.
1. Phil said the C5 Vette version of the 4L60E requires changes to the torque convertor and front pump to mate directly to the engine using the bellhousing from a Camaro. Does anyone know more about this? What the differences are? Phil said Yank gave him the information, and I want to be sure of what needs to be changed.
2. If I use a normal RWD 4L60E, will it mate directly to the C5 differential? From the few pics I have seen, it looks like the output shaft from the C5 trans is longer than other applications.
Thanks for any help you can give.
