Spring is in the air (sunny New Mexico) and I am thinking about building a new garage. Post up your pictures, I need a little inspiration.
I need the inspiration because I looked at 67 SS Chevelle this week end and I really want to buy it. It doesn't need as much work as my 67 (quicker to finish, drive and enjoy) but I really NEED a larger garage not another 67 Chevelle.

Show me those garages pictures....

Mine is only a 25x22 attached. Bigger is better.

80g compressor, fridge, stereo..all the essentials. I had a subbox added. Big help.
The soon to be a powdercoat oven is right there too.

Right after I expoxied the floor. Made the garage much brighter.

Small bench in the corner, but I have a large rolling bench that is strong as hell.
That pole is the bain of my existence. :hammer: It mocks me daily.

You can't have enough storage. Rack over bay. A hood is there right now. (see above)
There is a smaller on one the other side I store large cardboard. And the up&low valances for the 77. :) Shelves all over.

SWEET!! Your house looks like it will fit INSIDE your garage!
I got a 32x26 detached garage that is too small for what I need. But, if it were a 60x60, it would STILL be too small! LOL!

I dig that Camaro and a frig is the number one item in every garage.
Which epoxy did you use for the floor? Did you have to do the 'acid etch step'?

100mph...Dam that is great looking garage.
If the house next to it was smaller, you would be god like.

I built a 24'x32' with a 12'x32' 'bonus' room a few years ago and I am finally finishing the inside of it. My wife and I are doing all the work (she loves to do this kind of thing). We are using bead board and pegboard, I'll try to get some pics posted of the outside and inside.

If I had to do it again (and space would permit), I would have gone with a 30'x40' minimum.

After we get the interior walls finished, I want to epoxy the floor. Any recommendations on brand to use? Also, for those of you who have 'finished' garages, what did you use on the ceiling? I am debating using 4'x8' OSB, painting it white (or some light color to reflect light), and using wood strips on the joints to clean it up a bit.

The Rev damn nice garage can imagine what the house looks like ..wheww

curly
03-07-2007, 06:35 PM
Cool! I was hoping someone would say that they had used OSB and it turned out nice. Maybe a good primer would help with soaking up the paint? I might even try to use a white wood stain sprayed on with the wagner power painter. I have thought seriously about painting the panels before hanging them just to save myself the back pain of painting overhead.

We worked ~2 hours tonight and got another wall complete. Hopefully we will have all the walls done this weekend and have 'stuff' hung back up. I have to upload some new pics to photobucket to post.

dropit69
03-08-2007, 12:15 AM
..i ran into some problem cause the osb doesnt always measure 8 feet ..some of mine was like 1/8 inch short of being 8 foot so after butting about 6 sheets together i was almost of the joist so gapping might help then either caulk them or strip them..hope this helps,,

Cool, i was looking to do a 30x30 and your garage looks pretty much what i was thinking about. What are the rest of the measurements? The garage doors, ceiling height? Thats a 2 post lift in there right? Is that a loft above, or is it just attic space?
Thanks again!

ProBell
03-11-2007, 06:21 PM
I went to 28' deep because the cost of the Prue engineered trusses went down by a fair amount.I have no columns. The ceiling is 11' tall above the two bays. If you look at the left side you will see the lower section. I have a deck and door that go in the side to a storage room above the garage. The lower section helped the door look normal. The roof is a 12 pitch so it is quite a nice size room. The bay doors are 10' wide by 9' tall. I would recommend the 10' doors. They are nice when backing in the car or sled trailer. Randy

Randy, thanks for the info! Looks like your garage is built into a little hill, no. I was thinking of doing the same thing. I have been looking at the "garage kits" from 84 Lumber, but they are just standard height ceilings, so I was going to build up the foundation with a few rows of cinder blocks, possibly 4 feet, and then build the garage on top of that, giving me a 12 foot ceiling height. This way I can fit a lift in one of the bays.
Thanks again for the info!

KIT?
Just buy a kit and exchange the wall 2x4s for 2x6s the 12" length you need for the height you are looking for. Then add enough siding to cover the extra height. If they are using a six inch lap, just multipy the length of all four walls x 2 x extra feet height you are adding.

Yeah Bill, they have pre-engineered packages or kits. Friends of mine told me about this when they were looking to build shops. I have yet to stop in and actually talk to someone about this yet, but I will be sure to ask about what you recommend.

Yeah it's nice not to have anything to bang into. If you look on the one Ibeam you will see a 2 ton electric hoist. It's been used maybe once or twice :screwy:

It's nice because you can get at least 4 cars in there, if there is bad weather.

Some friends and I share this 24x50 shop. It's just a big ole square, but you can't argue with the contents. :yum: We just added workbenches. The space doubles as Twist Machine's warehouse and R&D shop during normal business hours. This is where final assembly and shipping of your orders occurs. Next up, we'll add a two post lift. If we find more members, we will expand into the shop next door. 48x50 would be pretty cool!! We currently have five cars, but only room for four cars. Good problem to have. Every Tuesday night we all get together and wrench as a car club called The Twisted Idiots.

mine......1500 sq ft, 12ft cielings, its 30ft from the house..... will hold my 30ft boat and four cars, got a two post lift a few weeks back. When I decided I wanted to build something like this I looked for a year and at 17 different properties before I found this place with a nice enough house and a lot that would allow me to build this, was out there all day today I love it and I will probably die at this house a happy man!! :) :)
Its really not as dark as it shows in the lift pic, must be the camera settings.

caper150 - care to share some more details on you floor heat. I've considered this options for when I get to build my shop.

I'm also thinking of going Geothermal since we will probably go that route with the house (again, when we build it).

I'm just dreaming at this point, but I like to learn as much as I can from others choices.

Thanks

I bought my whole set up at Menards, I went in and told them what size it was going to be and they gave me a quote and a material list of everything I needed. As far as putting it in I asked alot of questions and read alot from this site
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/
go to the heat and ac section and do a search and you'll find alot of info. This is the setup I have.
http://www.nibco.com/cms.do?id=2514
I still have to do the insulation in the ceiling so it's not fully effiecent yet but when I had it on and it was -40 outside it was between 35 and 40 inside.I also have a 80,000BTU construction that I'll turn on and in10 min it's 60-65* then stays there for quite awhile, once the ceiling goes in I won't need to use the heater anymore.

Guys with in floor heat......arnt you guys afraid of drilling holes in your floor with in floor??......I thought about putting it in when i was building mine, could have done it for price of materials since Im an HVAC contractor.....but the compressor has 4 holes, the lift 16, the furnace stand 4, the drill press another 4.......how did you deal with that???

This is when I first put my cars in it -

The second floor -
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Started to fill it up a bit -

Theres also a double carport in front with a roller door to seal it off from the street -

I can't really get far enough back to take a pic of the outside....but the garage is way bigger than my house....lol.

I had this 40x60x14 with a 12' overhang built this year. My goal is to be able to do just about anything here at home, instead of relying on the schedule of performance shops. It is a metal building with Hardiplank attached to the exterior. It has two different Rotary lifts, a 2-post 10K and a 4-post 12k.

Heres what we used to have to work with, barely a one car garage..
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2008/07/garagecars2-1.jpg
And heres the 1200sq.ft. shop we got a couple years ago, used to be a huge boat repair shop so theres fiberglass everywhere. You can cram four cars in there; theres a whole lot more crap in there now too..

My wife and I just bought our first house, and it came with this rather large 30x40 insulated and heater ready garage. Also has a 12' enclosed overhang, with covered car port for outside parking. Now the biggest problem with this amount of space is I am now going to have to start filling it up with tools and other parts. This was before we moved in, so it has a few more items, but not much more.
