... keep yourselves from getting side tracked from your projects?
Example I just purchased a new 1500 Ram Quadcab so I could tow. I traded in my Acura TL that was really plush that was lowerd with 20's and brembo brakes and the nice factory system. So now that the truck has 100 miles on it Im bored with it.. So all these thought of a lift kit, wheels and tires would look real nice on it, but this would take money from my falcon project.. Am I the only one that has these issues??

......gotta make more sense with getting rid of the TL and getting the polar opposite Ram Quadcab. I just don't get it.

My only vehicle (besides the camaro) is a car a lot like your TL was. I just "suffer" through it until the Camaro is done even though I'd like to get a truck too. I always find myself saying "no" to things because "that's Camaro money".

Creating a 'project to-do list' helped me too. I listed about stuff for the year and I cross it off as I accomplish things. Feels good to look at the list over weeks and months and see progress.

I've got my 69 camaro, an 86 mustang coupe (gonna be a drag car), an 87 jeep cherokee (rock crawler project), and I recently found a 71 camaro shell that I want to build into a dedicated road race project. all while I'm trying to open my business. is there a support group for this?

Wow. I feel a whole lot better now after reading your posts. I was starting to feel like I needed therapy or something. My El Camino is for all practical purposes finished. So I decided it was time to start on the Corvette. With that in mind, I sold my Joe Gibb Silverado to free up $600 a month. Once that truck was gone, I realized I still needed a daily driver while I worked on the Vette. So I found a two owner 71 K5 Blazer (I have a weakness for these damn trucks) to use for DD duty. Naturally, a 36 year old truck is gonna need some work to make it reliable. So I pull the engine to go through it… 6 months later, I’m driving it with a 4” lift, 33” tires, a 14 bolt rear w/ a locker, 355 w/ Edelbrock heads, Comp cam, Hooker headers, Perf Dist. HEI, Ron Davis rad w/ twin Spals, hydroboost, new M&H harnesses, Bow Tie 700R4, rebuilt NP205, 1 ton driveshafts, Dakota Digital dash, and the list goes on!!! To top it all off, I traded the Vette for my new project – ’66 Chevelle SS396, and it’s a project someone else started and lost interest in. Does it ever end? Maybe I do need therapy afterall!

Like most of you, I bounce back and forth between 4x4's, motorcycles and street cars. Right now it is a 00 Jeep XJ, 03 Suzuki SV650S and I am always looking for a new project. At this rate, it will be 15 years before I drive my Nova.

Maintain focus on the project, I have a 70 Nova SS, I have turned it into a drag car/ street car, Yesterday for instance I wanted to drive it, start moving the fuel system around so I could mount the tail pipes, I refrained, I want to turn it back into a handling car,

I finished up the tranny crossmember on the Camaro, cleaned up the tools swept up underneath and then made preps to weld in the close out panel in the firewall, then DSE subframe connecters, and then mini tubs,

maintain the course!!!

There's been many Chevelles in the paper lately,and I want to pull the BBC out of the Nova etc,etc,

My sig shows that DDs and project cars can be had altogether. But for those of us on a normal budget, it takes a long time for any one of them to be what you really want. One at a time is a great path.

the bonnie is in the paintshop now.. and im looking into wheels for it.. but i STILL have so much more i want done to Venny.. quite annoying..

my dd is a 03 subaru wrx, I got it for the same reasons, I've already bought sticky tires and hawk hp+ brakes for the mountains. I could ride a bicycle, and I'd figure out some way of spending money on it.

A good way to teach yourself to stay focused is to get sidetracked with a motorcycle, then wreck it. You will start to see that you should probably stay focused on the task at hand.
I could have put the $8000 into the car. I recouped most of my money and the deputy, which was behind me, said I should take action against the county. The road was real $hitty but I could here them saying, "You could've chosen to go another way."
It also helps if you have support from your wife. Mine wants to get the car done as bad as I do. She says she demands a boob job when it's done. More motivation!

Herb, the way I see it I would need therapy if I did not have a project. Sure there are days that I dont feel like working on it but when I get in the ZONE I feel great. Standing back and taking in the work you have accomplished is like a high. Yes, repeat with me guys, I AM A CAR NUT / GUY whatever you want to call it. Just don't tell me I need therapy, I get plenty of that in my garage.

I have seven weeks until I would like it on the road to iron out any problems. Granted I'm ignoring the fact my maxima needs struts ( I would not mod that car no matter what you paid me ) and if I make it she will not look purty, but this year is the powertrain and racing. :wrc:

I guess there could be worse things to spend our money on... like strip bars, beer at strip bars, dancers at strip bars, and then eventually divorce lawyers, followed closely by alimony payments. So from my perspective, it's better to skip all the drama and go broke building hot rods. This way, if the divorce happens because you spent too much money on your car, you'll at least have something cool to drive to your lawyer's office! :bananna2:

Anyways, I digress. Don't worry about how it looks on the outside, stay focused, get the mechanicals working (and reliable), then take care of the paint and fluff stuff.

I have to actively keep myself from getting sidetracked – we’ve unfortunately learned about ADHD, and I think I have it. I had to set some rules for myself. The 99 Z28 parts car in the driveway is under a nice car cover and is not allowed to come out until the 77 is road-worthy – for which Memorial Day Weekend is the goal. I already told my wife that I am not starting the new deck until then either (target = July 4th).

More then 1 big project at a time spells failure. Plus, sticking to 1 project at a time slows down the negative cash flow.
