Hi guys

I have been doing some research regarding some heat barrier stuff to put on the firewall from inside because the interior gets very hot from the firewall and floor pans... areas

I have found a firewall insulation pad and carpet underlays from YEARONE..

So I wonder if some of you guys have used those pads like the firewall pad that fits directly behind the firewall.

here is the link to it

If so, how effective are they as heat barriers. I have read about Dynamat and Fatmat in (about DAYNAMT) thread. I understood from the replies that they don't work good or do a good job as heat barriers. Besides, lots of complaints about FATMAT customer service and shipping delays..

Last but by no means least, I am not familiar with how to remove the dash board in order to put the firewall insulation pad, any ideas ?? I do have the assembly manual from yearone, but the illustrations are not that good

Thank you guys in advance

I have not used the YearOne pad, but did buy one from Classic Industries for my '71 that work pretty well. It was about 1/2" thick with one side of jute and the other 1/8" of rubber. It also had removable sections for all the various holes and could be cut out for either heat or AC cars. It really knocked down the noise, but I can not comment on heat reduction as I always had my windows down anyway.

I plan to reuse the pad once I get the shell back from the body shop, but will be putting a layer of ED sound deadener behind it and using a combination of ED on the inside floor and Lizard Skin underneath. So hopefully that will overcome the issues of the Camaro sweat box. Hope that helps.

I used the Year One firewall pad on my red '69. It was basically a stock replacement jute type pad. I was still getting heat coming in from the front floorpan though, so I stuck some 1/2" foam pad insulation under the carpets too. I found those in the form of "welcome" mats at the local hardware store, just cut them to fit. Nice floral designs on one side, lol.

But, they WORKED :)

I haven't used the mat you are asking about but thought I would add that I covered by firewall with secondskin damplifier pro sound deadening and it does a pretty good job on heat. I was driving in stop and go traffic (all 1st gear true stop... go) yesterday down here in socal it was about 80+* out. I was getting pretty warm in the car if I tried leaving the windows rolled up. So while driving I felt around the firewall and the few places I could touch/reach from the drivers seat were totally cool to the touch. This stuff is thin enough you could run it and a firewall pad if you really wanted to minmize heat (and noise). I covered my floor pan with it too.

I had to order a pad from oldmusclecars.com because YEARONE did not have the pad for A/C car.

I received the pad, the jute is sort of 1/2 inch thick. I am planning to put some FATMAT on the firewall, then put the firewall pad.. Maybe some type of Foam like what NineBall mentioned..

Heat is a big problem in those cars..
