which one??

So a friend of mine and I had a {well lets call it a "chat" } and I would like some thoughts. First, I know they are not the much more desired older model cars but anyway, if some one were to take an 02 camaro SS, and an03/04 "terminator mustang cobra, have drivers of equal skill, and put them on say 'Road Atlanta" which car would you think be fastest??? { ie: braking,handling etc......} just curious what everyones thoughts are. thanks for any remarks

I am not familiar with this "terminator" Mustang, but the 02 SS kicked the Mustangs rear in most every category right off the showroom floor. If you are talking a Stock SS vs a modified Mustang then that changes it all.

the terminator is the name ford gave those year cars. I know thats when they supercharged them in 03/04,and I "think" thats when they went with the independent rear susupension. but dont quote me on that part

If you are matching up a 02 Camaro to a 04 Cobra then, as much as i hate to admit it, the Cobra would probably win.

I dont know hard numbers but the Cobra does more power and irs, I would assume it would win (stock v. stock)

03/04 cobra can be made sick fast in short order but the camaros were known for better handling. Its tough call. When GM and Ford had their supercar pony shootout it was a draw. The 572 Camaro won around the track but the 10L boss Mustang won on drag strip.

Stock, with the same rubber on it, I would (sadly) go with the Cobra. Modded all bets are off...

Keep in mind he said COBRA.....that's the 390hp version. Eaton supercharged. Easy 12's right from the factory. Agreed, the 02 LS1 is no push-over, but the Cobra power was way better. (a friend of mine had a black 03 Cobra)

Also, like Roushguy said, I think those Cobra's were IRS rears.


With those two things in mind, I think the Cobra would eat the Camaro on either a dragstrip OR a road-course.
(assuming both are stock and have at least similar or stock tires)


I agree with everyone else on the mods though, once you start modding both cars it becomes much closer of a race.

The group I race with has an 03 Cobra classed the same as a ZR1 vette or 1 point behind a 01 Z06 vette, where the SS is classed with non R model Cobras 99-02.

Looking at some results last year an 03 cobra was 4 seconds faster than my friends heads and cam 02 SS. Obviously tires, drivers ( the Cobra driver is very good ), and mods make a difference, but it looks like the Cobra stock has an edge, yes I'll only admit an edge. :)

thanks for the thoughts guys, even though i drive a ford, I knew the camaro wouldnt be that far off,my friend said it would be NO contest!! as I said early on, equal drivers, same tires yes, the cobra would "probaly win, but modded ?? no telling I will gladly take more thoughts, { mostly so I can shut him up }.
