I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, but I'm picking up a 66 Chevelle SS396. It currently has a 396 (not the original engine) and I want to replace it with a 454 that I have. It's got L78 heads and was run on the dyno to the tune of 439hp/450tq. How much do you think I try to get for it? (I may keep the ignition system for the 454). Thanks.

Here's some specifics on the engine:

396, dyno tested - 435 hp 450 ft/lbs w/ carb straight out of the box, probably make more with some tuning

I don't know what its worth but might know an interested party once you figure out what you are going to ask for it, How many miles are on this and do you have a copy of the dyno sheet...curious to see what the power curve looks like.

The are no miles on this engine other than the dyno run. I finally got the dyno results:

RPM TORQUE HP
6250 338.3 393.1
6000 368.3 417.2
5750 382.3 416.2
5500 392.4 409.7
5250 412.9 412.8
5000 427.1 407.8
4750 428.3 389.8
4500 436.6 377.7
4250 441.8 362.3
4000 430.1 333.5
3750 420.4 307.3

Apparently, the 435hp number came from a different carb that the dyno operater installed "out of curiosity" to see if there would be any difference. I think I found a local buyer, but I intend to pirate the roller valvetrain for my 454.

Do you think $3000-$4000 is out of line for this engine? Thanks.
