Well, Lisa was going to do a 69 Camaro convertible we have until we found this 69 Firebird convertible. Lisa has always been a fan of Trans Ams and Firebirds. We have had a lot of them over the years, but never a early ragtop. Lisa thinks the 69 T/A is one of the best looking muscle cars ever built. And I tend to agree. And Lisa being a Florida girl, she has to have a convertible.

As I said, we found the Firebird a couple weeks ago causing a eleventh hour change of plans for this years SEMA car. We contacted Carter Hickman and asked if he could produce a 80% complete rendering before the Hot Rods & Restoration show next week. Carter Hickman accepted the challenge and is doing a bang up job on the renderings. He has done a amazing amount of work in a short time period. We have some details to work out, but this thing is looking so awesome I had to post what we have.

A few of drivetrain and suspension details are up in the air, but should be worked out at the HR&R Show. A few things are certain including a All Aluminum injected poncho mountain motor. Transmission is still open for discussion, she likes to shift, but with the power were putting in it I would like her to keep both hands on the wheel! We will run a solid Moser axle but have not committed to suspension system yet. Same for the front clip, were looking at options right now. Brakes will be Wilwood 14" with blue calipers, that is a no brainer. The wheels will be a one off set of 3 piece 19 X 13 and 19 X 11 with 355 / 30 / 19 rears and 295 / 30 / 19 fronts. The blue carbon fiber is a custom weave we are having done. I saw something similar on a bike recently, fricken fantastic! Pint will be House of Kolors Pearl white with the natural exposed Carbon fiber for the stripes.

We are making the molds for the deck lid, hard boot, hood, wing, and Lisa is going to be making her own parts! She is going to be pretty involved and dirty working with Michael. Basically, Michael and I got to do one, now it's Lisa's turn to build a car with her son.

Your either going to love it or hate it. It is Prodigy style for sure, and most either love or hate that! I think this does a good job of following in Project Prodigy's tracks.

I'm curious though....what "lessons learned" will you be applying to this build that you got from Prodigy?

Looks wicked. The wheels add a nice touch. I am however not fond of the wing. I've never enjoyed that style.

Frank, you already know my feelings..... One question? Does Prodigy have door handles?

Because this is the wifes car you may want to put them on along with some other comfort features. Oh yeah, make sure you put a quiet set of mufflers on. No sense doing every thing twice for the women. Ask me how I know? lol

Whew!

Thats gonna be Bad A$$! I love the Hard Boot idea! I've actually been thinking of how it could be done for awhile as i've never seen a ragtop (be it Camaro or Firebird) with a soft boot that fit nicely (they always wobble all around don't they!) and i need something nicer than that crappy piece for mine, it ain't makin it there for sure!

Will the rear seat still be useable?

Are you planning on making it removeable or if its gonna be a real speedster, so the boot would be integral?

Def keep us posted on the build!

Lead.

Mario,
The rear seat is not covered at all. The hard boot only covers what a soft boot does. Prodigy has a hard boot and a back seat.

Roger, Prodigy does have door handles. I have never been a big fan of smooting them. The artist drew it that way, but it does not mean it is in stone yet.

We will be tweaking a lot of little details, but the basic theme is here.

.........And i find myself looking at Prodigy...Again!

Any plans to sell those boots anytime soon? I want one!

Otherwise, sell me your secret recipe!

I had never even noticed it on Prodigy, but now, i've looked at it in details. It really looks like a nice piece. Fit/look is 1000 to zero vs the original.

I'll take a black one please.

The problem with the boot is storage. If Michael were to get caught in the rain with Prodigy, the boot would have to be sacraficed, LOL! I am working on making it a 3 piece so it could fit in the trunk, but have not worked out the engineering yet but think about it often

Just for my onfo how much do one off wheels like that cost? Unless you have your own CNC....

The custom wheels run about 7500.00 to 9000.00 a set for yor typical 18-20 inch Pro-Touring width wheels. This is something that we can get done if anybody really has to have them.

As for the blue cabon fiber, it is a custom weave we are having done and it is a bit pricey. We will probably do the hood and other parts in all charcoal carbon fiber and inlay the stripe areas in blue carbon fiber probably 12" WIDE where the 8" wide stripes will be exposed. It would be financial suicide to do the entire hood out of blue CF and then paint it. I don't know firm pricing yet, but we are trying to work with the weaver to bring this in as a product / service that we can offer.

Frank,

I am also working on car using a lot of carbon. Don't they make a silver-ish cloth opposed to the darker gray/green combo. What about shooting some candy blue on top of the silver type carbon or even a tinted resin???

Looks sharp!
