May not be the proper terminology for what I am wanting done but can anyone tell me if you have done this and does anyone have any pictures? I am using hot hues 3 stage candy paint. The car will be cosmic dust with candy red over top, I was planning on having the stripes painted Starry Night with candy red over it. This is a much darker base. Will this give me a ghost stripe effect? Looking at the color card there is a pretty big difference between the two colors I am hoping the contrast will be great enough to see the stripes... does anyone have any opinions or advice?

You'll deffinitely see the stripes. Not so much of a ghost stripe effect. A ghost stripe effect might be more of a psycho silver base/ cosmic dust stripe, or cosmic dust base/ pot of gold stripe.

Which one do you think would look better? Being able to definitely see the stripes or a more ghost stripe effect with the psycho silver or pot of gold? The pot of gold seemed to give a yellowish tint...

The whole idea of a ghost stripe is that you can barely see them. Without seeing the color sheet in sunlight, it would be hard to tell.
I'm going to do pshyco silver with either cosmic dust or starry night stripes and the molten orange candy coat. Not sold on either stripe color yet, but my wheel choice and color combo has changed at least 3 times since I started the project.

The orange is hot, I almost did that color myself I think it would have worked really well with the tan interior and tan top but my wife actually bought me this car and wanted red so I went with red, small price to pay I guess....

I have ghost stripes (red) on my Harley. You can't see them until you're about 5 feet away. They look pretty cool.

A technique I have done in the past is to spray the base. Then mask off the stripes, flames ect. Spray topcoat on the rest of the car 2-3 coats then unmask the stripes and finish top coating the entire car. Top it off with clear and you're done. Spray a few test panels to get your desired darkness of your top coat because you may want or need more or less coats to get the effect you want. The stripes are virtually invisible until the light hits them just right.

I have a buddy who got ghost stripes on his yellow nova even in bright light they cant be seen! Seems like a waste. I am not into the whole ghost stripe/flame thing it just doesn't make sense to go to the effort to paint something you only occasionally may see.
