As some of you might have seen Im going to attempt a g-brace for my Nova

I come to realize I can not weld 4130 chromemoly with my MIg. So I guess Im looking at DOM or some other sort of Mild steel.

BonzoHansen measured his second gen g-braces for me and his are 1" OD

Wall thickness is what Im stuck on now. Will .065 be strong enough with only a 29" span and that span will also be supported with another bar triangulated about 1/2 way down the section. Or would .120 be a better choice.
Weight is an issue and over kill is not going to help or hurt in this area.

Also what will bend the best. I will need to make 2 tight bends and dont want collapsing or kinking. 3" radi bend (about)

The bending part makes more difference than the weight wrt wall thickness. With DOM, you'll need .090, minimum. If it were me, I'd go to .120.

What kind of bender do you use?

With .065" wall tubing you should be able to bend it +/- 4" radi but it will be close.

I would not waste your money on DOM tubing. Regular welded seam mild steel tubing will be fine and less than half the cost. Especially for something as simple as a g-brace.

So I'd go with something like 1"x.095" wall round tubing.

What is the box with the 120V plug on it?

Zach's your man: 1 x .095 will work great for that.

i would go with at least .095 wall, and remember if you are going to use HREW keep the seam on the inside of the bend to prevent premature fatigue.

I made a price request with 71dusterdan for 1" .095 mild steel. lets see what he can come up with for a price.

okay everybody i just shot him a buck and a half a foot at 16 lbs from zip 61102. the electric welded mild steel he wanted is something we do not stock so that quote is on 1" dom 13 gauge wall, or .095wall, if he is in love with mild steel i can get it , but this is what we keep on hand and is a credit card away from going out on the next ups truck. all smiles and hugs, call me tommorow low buck the number is in your pm box.
