I thought I would share what I do all day. Mainly because I am bored. I work for Livernois Motorsports in Dearborn MI. I do specialty builds and production builds. Here are a few pictures.

Most be a fun job. I could only imagine working around HP all day long. I sell cable (networking products)......................................... .............
Does that sound exciting? I could only wish I had half the talent that some of you guys have so that I could get into this industry.

It has its up and downs. Like anything, it gets boring after a while. Yes, even High Performance. I dont enjoy wrenching on my own stuff anymore. I am applying for a desk job within the company right now, then hopefully I will be motivated to do more to my own car.

At least you get to practice your skills on other people's cars! I bet your project gets done right the first time (unlike mine)...:guilty:

So, you walk around and take pics all day?!??! LOL!
So, do you get to thrash and then beat on them? Or just thrash?

Jeff....do you know a guy named Dominic there that works the dyno? I saw his picture in GMHTP a few months ago and I recognized him right off the bat. I used to street race with that guy years ago.

Looks awesome, but you are right, like anything else, I am sure that gets boring day in and day out also. You gotta switch it up every once in awhile, the desk job will be a nice change. You can always go back out in the shop.

If I build the car it is my car the whole way. From the time it enters the door we do a visual check and a quote, then the build, then dyno tuning, and the ROAD TEST. By far the best part of the job. Allthough, customers get mad when they see you driving their car on the street.

I dont know about others but being creative is a blast for me. I have only worked in one shop that required a lot of that but some jobs do get tedious but thats when you have to work around sometimes. when I had a garage and stuff I could build a car for fun and would spend hour up on hours in the garage, I had a little black and white 13 in tv and my radio going both at the same time and I would be under the car maybe bashing knuckles or laying in crud (oh boy what fun) or trying to figure out how to design, build anor modify something to work for the job I needed it too.
I am a technician and I just love digging in and messing with cars. I like being able to get through the job at hand and drive it.
Maybe in another 20 yrs I will hate working on cars but figureing out things, designing parts and just coming up with a fix is a blast especially if you get to show that work off.

I gotta tell ya, Jeff...this is that part that makes me nervous about taking my car to Livernois for chassis-dyno tuning when it's ready. I spoke to someone over there about dynoing my LS1 when it's ready on the chassis dyno and he said I would have to leave my car there for a couple of days. I didn't get that. I talked to Vortech in Clinton Township and they said I can schedule an appointment and be in and out the same day. I just don't see why the car needs to be driven when the dyno should be enough to prove out the modifications. The thought of someone laying into my car when I'm not around is enough to make my skin crawl. Or did this guy not know what he was talking about? I forget his name now, it was a couple of months ago that I spoke with him.

Ok, here is the LMS Lowdown. Our dyno schedule is very busy. Our main tuner was fired about 3 months ago for theft, and our backup (my Boss) quit about a week ago. Our tuning is top notch. Dan Millen does it now(Outlaw 10.5 champ). If your car is brought in for a dyno tune, it can sit for a day or so until Dan gets to it. He is very busy so we dont always know when he will be around. Also, of your car is coming for a Dyno Tune ONLY, we dont test drive it unless your in the car. The cars that we do test drive are cars we install parts on. Some things(problems) can only be felt on the street. When I test drive a car its not like I take it to the drag strip. But I do make sure everything will work properly.
I have an example. We built a Mach 1 not to long ago. Complete long block with an F1 Procharger and about 24lbs of boost. On the Dyno the car was great (over 650HP to the tires with and auto). But, out on the street if you got into the throttle for a pull the car would shut off at 4,000RPM. Couldnt see that on the dyno, dont know why. But I am sure the customer would have been very upset if during his first drive in the new car, it died. This is the main reason the cars see street time.
Anything I didnt cover please ask. And if you have any questions about getting your car into Livernois, talk to me.
