View Full Version : Tall lower ball joints ???

Im wondering how much a taller lower ball joint would change the suspension geometry?

Other than lowering the vehicle 1"(or whatever taller they are), what would it change?

Im running the tall ATS g-body spindles, and dont wanna be changing their geomtry and ruining the gains Im getting by swapping to them from my b-body spindles.

These should cure my bumspteer problem. Before if I lifted my truck up, the toe would change probably 2-3". Id assume thats what causes my bumpsteer. Just eyeballing it, wheels dont move at all now.

Any help would be appreciated.

From my understanding, you should run the factory ball joints with the taller ATS spindles.

IIRC, a tall lower ball joint will
-lower the car (think dropped spindle)
-shorten the FVSA
-increase negative camber gain
-increase scrub radius slightly
and a host of other interrelated changes

Don`t use a taller than stock lower ball joint on your G Body with the ATS tall spindles. We did all the development work on the G body package for ATS. It`s based loosely on our G-5 suspension package. The idea was to take advantage of their excellent AFX tall spindles to get most of the benefits of the G-5 in a package that was easier to install and less expensive. A tall lower ball joint would screw up the bumpsteer,make the RC much too high and the FVSA too short among other things.
As you can see already,the bumpsteer improvement with the ATS spindles and steering arms is pretty impressive. The center 3" of travel have no measurable bumpsteer at all. :twothumbs It would be a shame to mess up such a good thing. Mark SC&C

Thank you, thats the kinda answer I was looking for. Not what I wanted to hear...but what I needed.

BTW, you wouldnt know what to TQ the steering arms to would you?
